"Consuela LP Review"

The first full LP from NYC rock and rollers Viva Mayday is as powerful as promised with hidden nuggets of ripe tone adjustment littered throughout. Sticking to their guns, the group delivers Consuela as a testament to a sound that’s been in their blood for years; constantly developing while remaining truthful to some original sin. Frontman Jafe Paulino makes it personal, transcribing a live show personality from the venue to record flawlessly. The album needs a soapbox as it preaches a very real message on par with the spirit of the times. - Dingus On Music

"Album Review"

You know that sexy raw-rock sound that sometimes verges on ska, and is always on the verge of making you sway and dance? Yes. Á la Black Keys, Hacienda and such, Viva Mayday is an up-and-coming power trio that just (independently!) produced and wrote Consuela, their first album.

"Live Show Review"

We got hype about Viva Mayday’s return to the Ghetto Metal stage. They kicked it up a notch on the metal side and went so hard, they had people bum rushing the door to get in! And we feel ‘em cuz they get you involved. Emotional. Be warned – you don’t want to miss another one of their performances. - The Source Magazine

"Monster/Bay Of Pigs Review"

New York’s own Viva Mayday (@vivamayday) have recently released a steady, bluesy single that will feel like home to fans of The Black Keys and Loomis and The Lust. The A-side “Monster” is a great track, dripping in wah-pedal sex and a no-look-back rock drive. Dealing with a man’s recognition of his own evil, “Monster” will adequately satisfy your craving for rock and roll that’s less head and more hips.
The B-side, “Bay of Pigs”, however, is where the band really hits on something special. Dipping into a back porch country swing, Viva Mayday spins a tale of what they say is just a story of a weird dream, but comes off as pointed, witty commentary on the ruthless nature of a corporate world — with an ominously low-pitched vocal sing-a-long section that’s as addictive as a Wall Street cigarette.
Viva Mayday, already veterans of the New York City club circuit, are bound to continue their climb if the rest of their upcoming album Consuela is anything like “Monster” and “Bay of Pigs”. - The Wild Honey Pie

"Album Release Show @ Mercury Lounge"

This Saturday, July 28, band of three and recent Deli Artist of the Month, Viva Mayday, will be rocking Mercury Lounge in honor of their new full-length record, “Consuela,” named after the band’s beloved mascot. The 10-track album, which has been keeping the group busy for the past two years, highlights the trio’s swaggering and swinging fusion of blues, rock, reggae, and soul. Three tracks are already available to tantalize on the band’s Facebook page, including surf-tinged “Demonic Woman,” funky “Monster,” and gritty “Bay of Pigs” (streaming below). Everyone who attends the show on Saturday will get a copy of “Consuela” upon entry, so don’t miss the chance to get one of the first hard copies. Doors at 7:30pm, 21+. The late show is also feature great line-up, featuring Philly’s Cold Fronts, and NYC favorites, The Click Clack Boom and The Gay Blades. - The Deli Magazine

Bio

After spending two weeks at Newkirk Studios in Brooklyn, Viva Mayday had completed their first EP entitled 100 Years. Blending together a variety of genres with heavy political undertones, 100 Years was quickly accepted by a wide public, and lead to gigs at some of New York Citys foremost venues. Sold out crowds at SOB's and Le Poisson Rouge, motivated the band to begin what will soon become their first full length album, entitled Consuela.

Jafe Paulino and Gian Stone, two multi-instrumentalist/songwriters who make up Viva Mayday, spent the past year writing, recording, producing, engineering and arranging "Consuela." Calling upon a variety of influences, from Bob Marley to D'angelo, Muddy Waters to Rage Against the Machine, Consuela weaves various genres into one solid piece of art. Though the album has been over a year in the making, its very well thought out and concentrated.

Throughout the recording process, Viva Mayday has been making much noise around New York City, opening for Living Colour, Dead Prez, Styles P, Earl Greyhound, M.O.P., The Family Stand, Das EFX, Bazaar Royal, Dawn Penn, Dr. Cornel West & The Cornel West Theory, Keith Murray, Saigon, and many more. Their live shows are creating a buzz and have been discussed in publications such as The Source Magazine. Consuelawas released July 28th, 2012 and is available via iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify.
