"Votchi - Unicorn"

Killer progressive hard rock band that has been hiding out in the Czech Republic. Votchi is a classically trained septet HEAVILY influenced by Deep Purple and Jethro Tull with more than a smattering of Yes and Uriah Heep tossed in for good measure. Imagine Ian Anderson sitting in on the Burn sessions and you'll get the idea of the direction these guys are heading in. These guys really lay the hammer down and are as tight as can be at the same time. Vocalist Petr Kutheil has great range while flautist Libor Barto goes for that spitty Anderson style of playing. Great twin guitar breaks challenge a roaring Hammond organ attack. Like our own Black Bonzo, Votchi squarely captures the hard rock sounds of the 70s and infuses them with more than enough progressive trimmings. If these guys get exposure outside of their homeland - watch out! Highly recommended.

Votchi - New Religion

Bio

Our band was founded in July 1999. Our musical style reflects individual influences of the various band members; now we can say that our style comes close to progressive hard rock. The line-up has changed over the years, a few other musicians joined and left the band, but the band's core members stayed constant.

We have released three studio albums. The first album “Scary Woman” (2002) was a successful debut and the eponymous song was in rotation on the Czech biggest rock radio station “Radio Beat” for several months. There were quite a few positive press reviews.
We have won a few prestigious contests – a perfect motivation for further work.

Thanks to our regular participation in big summer music festivals and extensive touring we subsequently attracted rock fans’ attention. In 2003 we supported the legendary Whitesnake in T-Mobile Arena in Prague and we were chosen as a support act for the world-famous Colosseum in “Lucerna Music Bar”. We also played a few gigs in Germany.

In 2004 we released our second album “Unicorn”. Some of the new got regular radio play on Radio Beat again and critics gave the album very positive reviews.

In 2005 we played alongside famous Czech bands such as Blue Effect, Vladimír Mišík, Divokej Bill, we won a Radio Beat’s contest „Nadìje Beatu“ (Beat Expectations) and thanks to our success we played in a sold-out venue (Lucerna hall) alongside Blue Effect and Pražský Výbìr. At the end of the year we have reached the highest level so far: we were awarded first prize in the “Golden Nightingale” contest in the category “budding artists” and we reached the 6th position in the“bands” category. In October 2006 we supported Deep Purple in “ÈEZ Arena” in Ostrava.

It should also be mentioned that we played two gigs in the Liverpool Cavern Club; no Czech bands had played there before.

Currently there are four videoclips in rotation on TV – "Unicorn", "Demon’s Eyes", "Maria Magdalena" and "Money". In February 2007 we performed live on Czech TV in a morning show and at the end of August we toured with another famous Czech band "Czechomor" as their support act. In October 2007 we reached the 1st position in the “Gambrinus MP3 paráda” chart.
In 2008 we finished our third studio album - New Religion.

Next year we won another contest “Rock Nymburk”.
