Bio

This is the group whose sound immediately impacts the innocent bystanders at the venue. Not a single conversation survives in the audience when Vox Noctis goes on. With an intricate post-punk foundation, the originality and sheer intensity of their songs is impossible to dismiss as anything standard.

Vox Noctis was formed in the early summer of 2005 in Riverside, CA. Jon Atkins (songwriter, vocals, guitar, synth) teamed up with Dan Hernandez (guitar) and David Rodriguez (bass) to play Interpol covers. In an initial desperation for a drummer, the band reluctantly allowed Emily Salisbury, Jon's little sister, to drum. Time went by, as did a few original songs, and it became clear that Emily was as determined and talented a drummer as the entire Inland Empire had to offer.

In less than two years, Vox Noctis had assembled enough original music for two EPs (Episode Substitute, Depressioneering) and a full-length album (Pharmacy). They have been in more bars than most drinkers have without a single member being of legal drinking age. They have headlined the Whisky a Go Go, stole the show at the Roxy, and opened for the Smithereens at the Key Club. These are just a few examples of LA shows. They have played a variety of venues from San Bernardino to Newport Beach to Universal City.

The spectrum of influence for Vox Noctis is so vast, ranging from Buddy Guy to David Bowie to Joy Division to Sigur Ros, that it allows the band to not have two songs that sound the same. Yet they are so focused and thematic in their songwriting, that the variety is not overwhelming. From extravagant and anthem-esk arrangements that leave your spine tingling, to the bleakest and most subtle interpretations of despair that set a lump in your throat, each song has something you can hold on to and connect with. Vox Noctis is ordinary kids making extraordinary music.
