- Sarah Patier Kangni

Bio

Voyage de Nuit is a project born from the encounter between Nuala Kennedy and Philippe Guidat during an artist residency, Music Omi, in New York in 2007.

Nuala Kennedy is an Irish singer and flutist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Carrier from a very young age of the Irish musical tradition, her last fifteen years in Edinburgh also allowed her to assimilate the culture of her adopted country. Her artistic career is huge and international for several years. Multi-instrumentalist, she plays all kinds of flutes and Irish whistles, sings in her native language but also in two Irish and Scottish Gaelic, as a fluent speaker.

Philippe Guidat is a guitarist from Clermont-Ferrand, France. Musician very much oriented towards musical fusions, his philosophy is to work with musicians and artists from different backgrounds and cultures with no style or artistic fields limits. For years, he was required to work with people from jazz (Nguyen Le, Louis Winsberg), electronic music (Gilles Ballet, Christian Pincock), flamenco (Paco El Lobo, Sharon Sultan, Sabrina Romero), Indian classical music (Sri Venudas), Celtic music (Julian Sutton, Filippo Gambetta), gypsy (fanfara Transylvania), etc.

Nuala and Philippe used to play together in each other bands and exchanged on the way they perceive and conceive music, to build their own crossover musical language since 2007.

Voyage de Nuit is first a meeting and a willingness to mix the Irish and Scottish folk music with Philippe Guidat's language, using the rhythms of flamenco as well as jazz colors. And beyond, the idea was to cause the meeting of cultures around the traditional music. So, the project facing the Irish and Scottish folk culture, reinforced by the Scottish accordionist Fiona Black, with the traditional music from Auvergne region carried by the violinist Francois Breugnot and oriental rhythmic structures of Malik Adda.

Francois Breugnot is a traditionnal fiddle player and singer from Auvergne (center of France) and a great specialist of is own culture and traditions. He caries traditionnal melodies and songs from this area which fit completelly with the celtic tradition.

Malik Adda is a multi instrumentist percussionnist, playing frame drums, cajon and zarb. His own musical experience lies down from the traditionnal music from north africa to jazz and he knows to mix and bring orientals drums and rythms in any kind of musical style.

Being a Highland girl who is always up for a challenge and a new adventure, Fiona Black bring her accordion style which incorporates many different influences, intertwining her native Scottish style with Irish, Swedish and Cape Breton repertoire, always adding her distinctive rhythm and vibrancy.

The music forms of the five musicians' country and their influences become the way in a new sound invention which doesnt give up of his freedom and spontaneity on the stage.
From Ireland to the Mediterranean Seas shores, musician of
Voyage de Nuit carry the audience in climates of joy, energy and emotion.
