For the avid music lover one thing will always remain evident; a great song is a great song regardless of the genre. However, the goal for any artist is to strategically compile a string of great songs to create an awesome album. Providence native Voz Music’s latest album, “UNIverse” attempts to do just that. This 12 cut composition is similar to a patch quilt, for its warm concepts and lively production are sewn together with the threads of a plethora of genres (Hip-Hop, Pop, and Electronica to name a few). It’s filled with an assortment of meaningful songs that will keep your body moving and your brain thinking.
The production of the project covers a broad spectrum of artistic styles. The smell of fresh vinyl spinning atop rotating Technics 1200 pallets is in the air on “Raw (M.I.C.)” f/ Frank Fitted and Bringing It Back f/ Ze. These tracks embodies the golden age of Hip-Hop; utilizing a bevy of samples and drum loops to rattle the trunk of your car. Voz entices listeners to expand their horizons as he lets his thoughts gracefully flow like a condor whisking across crimson skies on the piano/synth heavy “Wizard of Oz”. Although there are a variety of great songs on UNIverse, there are a few tracks like “Frankenstein” and “Pacman” that are definitely Fast Forward material. But not to fear, he bounces back like R. Kelly with “Hard to Tell” f/ K.I.T., a lively House groove that will drive party goers to the dance floor.
As a music connoisseur, I find UNIverse a particularly refreshing composition. The production is well put together and his poignant rhymes exemplify his intelligence. The album only contains a few missteps but as rebounds quickly as Denis Rodman circa 1990. Born in Providence R.I, this gifted artist claims the Hartford projects as his home. Eager to create, Voz found
himself to be very gifted with a pen. That is when the pen became his paintbrush. By the age of 14, Voz would write and perform for spoken words exhibitions and slams. This is where he was first recognized as a gifted writer and performer throughout Providence. At events such as local talent exhibitions and competitions here in RI,as well as beyond the RI border. Later in life, he decided to evolve from the poetic life to the musical life. The multi-talented artist,Voz also plays piano, and as a result began to not only write but produces his own music. Through venues such as The Providence Black Rep, and AS220, Voz hit the stage and he has never looked back. Voz took on his new identity Voz Muzik
