The best kept secret in music
Press
Something about this local mod-rock trio sticks with us when most of the others blur
together. Could be the way the singer's woozy, smeary emotional pleas meet up with the
band's adept free-range pop-rockism in a way that brings to mind prime Afghan Whigs or
maybe Tommy Keene on a bender.
- Baltimore City Paper
Throughout the 10-song self-titled debut lies a melodic manifestation of germinating
choruses and guitars whose amplifiers sit someplace between an arena and a garage,
blending a big sound with a raw quality. With songs like these, it's almost obscene not to
give Vulgaria a listen.
- Altar Native (Miami)
Seattle meets London...And while you're at it, toss in a bit of Replacements,
with a hint of Cracker. The end result is a power pop disk that grows
with repeated listenings...the boys pull it off, and do it well.
- NY Rock
Rock 'n Roll, baby...Piping hot and refreshing to a touch.
- Not Lame Recordings
...songs of uncommon complexity and depth. This is not yer ordinary pop band...
Truly something special.

Bio
Vulgaria is the creative outlet of lead singer/songwriter, Kurt Deemer, who also plays guitar. Kurt was born and raised in Baltimore and made a name for himself in the Baltimore scene starting at age 12. He played in several local bands including the popular local band The Shadowmen for a few years until deciding to start his own band. The band's first effort was also one of Kurt's first major recording efforts.
Joining him are John Christensen on lead guitar, Chris Maher on bass and Steve Rose on drums. Steve was the first permanent Vulgarian. Hailing from England, Steve drummed in bars throughout Europe and emigrated to The States seeking fame, fortune, and Rock 'n' Roll in it's raw form. He met Kurt in the late nineties and the two clicked musically. John has also been playing guitar since he was a teenager. John fronted a band in Pittsburgh where he grew up. He relocated to Maryland in 1995 and played bass in a band that Kurt produced called the Heroin Kings. One of Johns major influences includes AC/DC . That influence can be heard on new songs such as no Worry and On a Roll. Chris joined the band about a year ago to play bass while hes not putting out house fires in Baltimore city. Chris enjoys laying down the groove for the band and is their secret weapon, always felt but not always heard.
The band have been playing together for several years and have already released a self-title CD and their latest CD, "Weight of The World". Both of Vulgaria's CD's have been self-produced with Kurt at the helm as engineer. Vulgaria's sound has changed from alternative to more of a power pop sound with the latest CD. The band is currently working on recording a new EP which should be finished sometime in Winter of '07.
