Bio

THE DAYS OF YORE

San Antonio born, VULTCHA found out the hard way that a lengthy stay at grandma’s house would turn out to be more than an introduction to the ‘Hood’. Brooklyn (East NY) would become the crucible that would test his mettle and his manhood in more ways than one. This is the place that introduced him to his childhood sweetheart and lifelong partner—Hip Hop. Better than the average Breakdancer and Pop-locker, as a child he got his first taste of the limelight back-spinning on cardboard in front of his house, and later in front of his public school.

Then at the age of 12, his fascination with beats and rhymes took on an even feverish pitch, one that would find him any night of the week disturbing the neighbors with his ‘Ghetto-Blaster.’ Till the wee hours he could be found meticulously studying Hip Hop greats(Tee La Rock, LL Cool J, Melle Mel, Krs-One, Kurtis Blow, Rahkim, Jungle Brothers, Just-Ice, and more...), memorzing the scratches of Run-DMC’s Jam-master Jay(R.I.P.), Mix Master Ice (UTFO), and Eric B. Who knew that these “passing fads” (quote from any adult in the lmid- 80’s era) would eventually turn into the driving force and blossoming identity that a light-skinned, ‘piss colored’, church boy from the East would adopt?

Cheekily reminiscing, he’ll attest to the ghetto-fabulousness of going to ‘The Studio’ while he was still in high school. “I was one of the only cats I knew going to the studio back then. Nowadays, everyone goes to or owns one.” Even suffering academically (for a time) in his eternal quest to master 'two turntables and a microphone.' In his former life (life before Christ), he could be found paying dues with local troops in the never ending search for stardom; doing college shows across the city, producing and rhyming with groups: The Invincible ESP and Phygures of Speech (to no avail.) Dedicated to breaking through to stardom, he tirelessly produced and developed the talent of 'countless' amatuers in search of the perfect demo.

THE GRASSHOPPER

As a studio intern, VULTCHA was under the tutelage of audio engineers Shlomo Sonnenfled (Such a Sound-Gangstarr, U-Mc's), Yoram Vazan (Ganstarr, Das Efx, Masta Ace) and Ethan Rhyman (Wu-tang, Ol Dirty bastard) of Firehouse Studios fame. He even assisted engineered on Wu-Tang Clan’s ’36 Chambers’ and Old Dirty Bastard’s ‘Return to the 36 Chambers.)’

His last nod from the industry was his featured performances on the score and soundtrack to the Oscar nominated documentary, ‘On The Ropes.’ But thanks to botched handling of the project, there was no commercial success or awareness due to its lack of promotion.

Consistently coming close but never grabbing the proverbial stone, the life of a struggling entertainer slowly began to bear its fangs down upon him. Even closer were the calls on his life. The urban environment lacks no access to life threatening situations, and after being caught in a cross-fire and a bad Marijuana trip—VULTCHA began to slowly cash in his chips on fast living (money, drugs, violence, and sex.)
Eventually, he gave his life to Christ shortly before the events of 9/11--and his music.

REINVENTION

Because “No surrender is complete until it is 100%,” that is exactly what he gives on his songs. "I believe I don't have to compromise the quality and passion that I put into my tracks just because I'm a Christian." He is now currently repping the Holy Hip Hop underground and using his music to influence the lives of many--for a positive change. He can be found at seminars, on trains, and in the streets of NY 'giving away' his 6 song promo CD. "My music is a ministry that encourages, entertains, and enlightens the open minded, and those seeking forward movement. How could I not give away my tracts/tracks?"

THE MISSION

Currently seeking distribution/funding and a superior marketing strategy, he is eager to see what is in store for this budding genre sa he seeks to follow in the footsteps of so many trailblazers that lack recognition.

BEHIND THE NAME

Understandably so, more questions have risen about his name than his decision to follow Christ, so he addresses all of them to the 1st book of Corinthians verse 1:27-29, which reads:

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

THE PROPHECY

Soon to be promoting his upcoming album RAPTCHA, VULT’—as friends call him--wishes to leave no stone unturned in the search for sponsorship to attain his artistry and urban ministry goals through music, songwriting and product
