"Wade in the Love"

Every genre of music contantly offers up new talent with 'wannabe singers' begging to be heard. Some try their luck and/or talent (some with more luck than talent) by standing in line waiting to be the next American Idol. Then there are those who actually work for it by putting in their time, learning the music business, maturing as an artist and garnering the respect and adulation of their fellow musicians. Wade Love is that man.

When my editor first asked me to do a story on Wade's upcoming album release, I must admit I had not previously heard of Mr. Wade. I had however, heard of his father Rudy Love. Rudy served as musical director for Sly and the Family Stone for many years. Wade's sister Kandice Love signed with Def Island Soul/Def Jam Records. With that information in mind I pictured him as a pubescent, hopeful new artist releasing the next copy of 'been there-done that', only because so much of today's music often sounds unfortunately repetitious. Then I heard him sing. His velvet, well tuned voice was a wonderful surprise. His musical arrangements perk interest, while his sound is likened to a one man show of BoyZ To Men. Consider that a compliment Wade. Most of us in the music business aren't particularly fond of being compared to anyone, particularly because comparisons can prove difficult for fans to overcome. However, in Wade's case it truly is a compliment. He IS a one man show who doesn't need any other singers by his side.

Perfecting his craft since the early 80's, Wade has worked with such memorable artists as Stephen Stills and Mary Wilson. His musical talent encompasses not just his voice. He plays keyboards, guitar and the viola. His training background includes the San Francisco Boys Chorus, The Young Americans, School of the Arts and the famed remixers; 3rd Floor Productions, to name a few. And though he has earned his chops doing background vocals for many artists, he has also broadened his horizons through songwriting, arranging and producing. Which brings us to his current project; his debut album release this month of "FEELIN REAL GOOD." His first solo project is a commendable effort on showcasing his varied talent. The great news is that as good as he is right now, he can only get better and better! A 'heart of gold' performer who loves his craft, Wade wants to please his fans. Specializing in R&B, Hip Hop and Dance music, stay tuned; you just might be hearing Wade Love on the radio very soon. "Aptly named Love an uplifting singer By RICHARD FREEDMAN Times-Herald staff writer"

Saturday, July 17, 2004 - If anyone has an appropriate surname, it's Wade Love. The vocalist's debut album includes the tunes, "Feelin' Real Good," "You're the Best," and "I Will Always Love You." No nasty songs for this man from Antioch. No words degrading women. He's not kicking any dog or shooting the cops. The man is all positive. And he likes it that way. "I am very excited about what I have been able to accomplish, and I hope that my story inspires others to keep pressing forward with their dreams," Love said. Psyched about a debut album release this month, Love makes his first local appearance Saturday with a noon show on the Jamba Juice Entertainment Stage at the Solano County Fair. Love hardly entered the music world blind. His father, Rudy Love, worked with Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn and Ray Charles. "I have been singing and writing music all my life," Love said. "My mom and dad were singers and musicians, and had their own band. I have been in and around music all my life. So putting out my own album came naturally." It hasn't been instant success, however. The ladder to the top sometimes has a few more rungs than one expects. "It has taken a number of years to arrive at this point in my life," Love said. "Over 10 years, to be more exact. I am finally self-sufficient when it comes to creating music." Proprietor of his own recording studio, "I can write music whenever I am ready," Love said. "I am no longer waiting for someone to help me with every little thing." Not that Love is so self-absorbed to think he can do it by himself. "Don't get me wrong," he said. "I am not so far at this end of the spectrum where I do not value collaboration. I think that collaboration is very powerful when it is done right. I actually prefer collaboration." Some collaborators, though, "are either not ready when you are to make music or they have competing priorities or interests. It has taken me a long time to get here but I would not have it any other way." Love said it was his family that provided the anchor in his life. "However, when it comes to working with music production, I have to give thanks to a production company, Third Floor Productions." One of the company's members, Raul Recinos (aka "DJ EFX"), "really took me under his wing and gave me the direction and mentorship that I needed to develop into the artist that I am today," Love said. "I am forever grateful for the knowledge that I obtained from working with him." Love said he wasn't much different than most artists when he was younger. "I had hoped that I would get a record deal," he said. "I had hoped that I would be discovered by somebody who would help me bring all the pieces together and take me to the next level." Recinos warned Love that he would have to take charge. "He told me that sitting around waiting for someone to do that for me was less likely to ever happen," Love said. Love said it's his goal "to show the world that it is never too late for a person to make their mark in this business. Also, I want to prove that underground R&B can do just as well as underground hip-hop or house music can. I am determined to find my market." Love has a Bachelor of Science degree in business and marketing and works for the State of California's Judicial Branch. He is married with a baby. "I feel tremendously blessed," Love said. "I think I am doing well overall." - Times-Herald
