Bio

Wailing Dog is old fashioned. I like to do things right and that means doing them well and that means taking our time in a whole world gone mad in search of instant gratification. I'm eclectic in my love and taste for music. My first release was a stripped down acoustic affair focusing on the intimate sound that initiated W.D. and is at the heart of what I do. The best music, I believe, can always be taken down to the bare essentials and still retain its beauty and power. I don't limit myself to any genre and can guarantee that while there might not be a Wailing Dog song on record you love now... there will be one day.

Formed on Oahu in 2004, when I met my good friend and cellist John Simpson during our freshman year of college at Hawaii Pacific University. It was a long road of on and off again collaboration before we finally got serious enough to bring it all together and make a record in 2006. We led off that record, simply titled I, with the first song we ever wrote together "My Sky is Black With You". Our first record is an account of who we've been and how we've felt growing up in this stimulating and alienating time. The sound is the result of our youth and what we took from it. Several of the tunes reach back into our teen years while others were penned as we legally reached adulthood (read: finally could buy booze without fake IDs).

Our second record was recorded in a three week fury during July 2007 in a house deep within the East Texas countryside. It built upon it's predecessor and broke the previous' mold: branching out of the acoustic realm and experimenting with new sounds

There is always a struggle for balance in the modern world and we were no exception. John Simpson amicably left the band to finish school in the spring of 2008.

After a year long hiatus, I decided to relaunch the band. So with a new batch of songs and a renewed vigor, Wailing Dog is once again alive and well.

I still play many of the old songs, just with a lot more bravado and the new stuff, well it's of a different breed, so to speak. In any case, I stand by what I said previously, whether or not there's a Wailing Dog song you dig now, there will be... so keep listening, cause it may just be on this next record.
