Wakeelah Shabazz

Wakeelah Shabazz is a soulful songstress, songwriter, single mother and the owner of Waksha Music Group. Ms. Shabazz can easily transition from R&B to Jazz, she can roll into soul, go Pop an even take you to church with some real good Gospel! Waksha Music Group was born from Shabazz’s love of music, along with her strong passion to sing and write songs. This seasoned vocalist is no new comer to the music scene. Singing since the age of 5, and writing songs ever since she was 15 Wakeelah grew up in a musically inclined family of seven. Her mother, who is not a singer and with no musical training was divinely guided to teach her children how to sing Wakeelah has three sisters and one brother, she was once apart of an ensemble called “Speechless” with her sister Jamillah.
Marriage for Jamillah meant that Wakeelah would become a solo artist and there she excelled, Shabazz has been the opening act for greats like Rueben Studdard, Bobby Velentino, Cue of 112, Allyson Williams, Jeff Floyd and she blew Steve Harvey away on his morning show after winning the Tuesday Morning Talent segment. Wakeelah has been influenced by soloists Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Anita Baker and songwriters such as Diane Warren, Bryan McKnight, Kenneth “Baby Face” Edmonds and Neyo. The well kept secret that is Wakeelah Shabazz will release her debut album in May of 2012 in hopes to get her audience “Caught Up,” which is the name of the album as well as the first single.
