Bio

In the two and a half years since their inception, Phoenix based power trio Waking Avalon has changed and grown, shedding its skin, and stripping down the music to a more focused, straight up rock ‘n’ roll. Their particular brand of Indie/Alt-Rock has set them apart by playing music that is both unique and approachable, thus holding to the mass appeal.
Waking Avalon has recently finished recording their first EP, “Shut Up and Smile”, and it is now available on many music-purchasing sites; including iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster and others. “Shut Up and Smile” can also be heard in its entirety at www.myspace.com/wakingavalon. The band is now working on promoting the EP, and the rest of their music by playing in clubs throughout the Phoenix area. They are also making plans to head out to other cities around the South West to play for new audiences and increase their fan base with their live show that they love to put on.
Singer/songwriter Adam Johnson’s vocal range moves periodically from the part of crooner to more of a falsetto, thus aligning him with the ranks of Power Pop counterparts. In addition, Johnson’s bass playing, combined with Jake Acree’s drumming is the bedrock that holds this musical mountain secure. Acree, playing for over 19 years, presents innovative and dynamic drumming, which cements Waking Avalon’s music with a foundation of smooth beats and complex rhythms. Pete Kenyon’s guitar style is at times reminiscent of 80’s arena rock while maintaining a feel that is modern and eclectic. Kenyon’s love for guitar and creativity are evident in the energetic, playful evolution of the music. Waking Avalon’s live show is a testament to their passion for the music. Front man, Johnson belongs on stage. The band loves to interact and include the crowd, inspiring listeners to not only hear but also really experience the music by becoming a real part of the show.
The members of Waking Avalon have come from different parts of the country, greatly influencing their background and musical inspiration. Their process of creation helps to bond many musical influences. Johnson’s roots are in Massachusetts, playing shows across the northeast before moving to South Carolina. Kenyon found his beginning with bands in Colorado, and then followed the music to the Seattle area where he met Acree, who was playing in hardcore bands on the Seattle scene at the time.
With drive, determination, and a passion for the music they make, Waking Avalon is looking to expand exponentially. The love of the music is imbedded in what they do, the writing, the playing, the performance, and Waking Avalon wants to share that love with whoever will listen.
