BandAlternativeRock

In the tradition of great multi-instrumentalists Beck, Trent Reznor, Kate Bush, and Brian Wilson, Mark Walker creates a complete sonic palette of music with an indelible distinction. His debut album 'Dysfunctional Illaureate' shows that you can rock the house and still be eclectic and diverse.

Biography

Having played in bands for years in Portland and Seattle during the lucrative garage band era, Mark Walker relocated to NYC in 2003, where he completed his first solo CD, "Dysfunctional Illaureate." Being a singer/bass player/multi-instrumentalist, all performance, recording, and mixing was done single-handedly. He continues playing shows with full band back up or solo accompanying himself on bass with a unique playing style infusing sounds reminicent of piano or cello mixed in with the more fundamental basslines.

Better Than You

Written By: Mark Walker

Better Than You

Look out behind you, here comes that subtle glance
It's here again to tell me that
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better...

Can't quite convince you when I'm unsure of me
Deep down I have to tell myself
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better than this

Hands thrust in my pockets, dare not look up off the floor
To see the look reminding me
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better...

It's not so much the sound I make as what I'm trying to say
While deep down I have to tell myself
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better than this

This is not who I am
What I'm supposed to be
Someone much better than me
Someone you'll never see

I came with all the right parts, but all the wrong directions
Not much of an equation to prove that
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better

Bound, gagged, and caged, my personal best has come of age
And still no one to see how much I'm
I'm better than you
I'm better than you
I'm so much better than this

This is not who I am
What I'm supposed to be
Someone much better than me
Someone you'll never see

Twisting In Heaven

Written By: Mark Walker

I'm not afraid of anything
Unless it's in the air I breathe
The holy merchant weaves the screen
Try to capture my belief
Speaking in tongues sounds like fun
But it ain't my cup of tea
I can't say that I've been led astray
By the voice inside of me

Twisting in Heaven...

You say you speak the words of God
But your words don't quite ring true
If God almighty spoke to me
I don't think he'd sound like you

Hold me

\You drive me right out of my mind
You've sold me
Show me where to sign...

Twisting in Heaven
Holding your breath to catch your fall
Twisting in Heaven
Eyes crossed, your back turned to us all

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you
You're as loved as one could be
With such an amazing deity
I guess you don't need me

Hold me
You drive me right out of my mind
You've sold me
Show me where to sign...

Twisting in Heaven
Holding your breath to catch your fall
Twisting in Heaven
Eyes crossed, your back turned to us all

You drive me right out of my mind...

Throwaway

Written By: Mark Walker

If the breed tears us apart, will we still remember - in our time
Instead of...
Making time a casualty, losing all the memories that we know
Instead of...

Dragging our dead weight behind, spirits drowning in the undertow
Instead of...
Blind compassion for the ones who locked our doors and shut out all the light

But someone set us wrong
We're only screaming at the walls
It's come too far to fall
We never leave here after all

But I can't help but look back
To where we were surrendered
And although you were forsaken
Your face I still remember - (You have no idea)

But someone set us wrong
We're only screaming at the walls
It's come too far to fall
We never leave here after all

What we see is never coming...

'Cause somebody set us wrong...
