Wamsley’s new EP Light Waves and Sound is a great audio showcase for the Milwaukee trio, centered in the genre’s tough-versus-melodic sound that the late ’90s/early ’00s. Guitarist/vocalist Nick Zwirlein echoes a bit of the voice of Milwaukee post-punk outfit Hey Mercedes’ Bob Nanna and drummer Paul Hinterberg follows suit also in that band’s math-y foundations. Strong bass lines, intricate drum layers and a bit of crunch in reverb, fuzz and discordant-to-melodic keyboards by Wesley Falk provide an interesting take on the rock parade. - http://sonicdiet.wordpress.com/

Bio
Influenced by the complexity and dedication of the 18th century violin maker Peter Wamsley, the band came to view songwriting as a craft and themselves as craftsmen. The group adopted the British surname as their own, but the sound that they crafted rarely points to the classical music associated with their namesake. The groups founder, singer-guitarist Nick Zwirlein, is foremost a classically trained cellist but seldom plays his 1735 Wamsley cello on the album. More often the band turns to intense-but-melodic rock/electronic/math fare that cant help but be informed by the bands academic roots.
