'Anyway' – single 2015
'TALKS' – EP 2015

Feeling a bit camera shy

Ward & Sahraei are two girls from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. They’re both twenty something
with passion for anything other than the ordinary.

They go both ends of the spectrum. Ward brings in the electronic beats, while Sahraei brings pop
punk back in scene. What makes Ward & Sahraei so unique is that they do not stick to one kind
of genre, at least, not yet. The combination of Ward & Sahraei is what makes the whole concept
unique and refreshing. They are two free spirits who like to experiment with different types of
music. Ward & Sahraei are a mix of indie, electro, pop, punk, alternative and synth.

“We try to inspire and we are inspired by our favorite bands, like Hellogoodbye, Passion Pit and
Vampire Weekend”

In Ward & Sahraei you can hear the pop like Grouplove, catchiness like Hellogoodbye and the
unique and experimental set like Twenty One Pilots.

In 2014 their unreleased single ‘Sights (Summer Nights)’, a song written for the Art Rocks
Competition in 2014, got them to the semi-final. The fisherman house, a painting by Claude
Monet, inspired ‘Sights’. Reviews for the song were positive. “The song has a strong chorus. The
melody is a reminiscent of a sunny summer day in a far-off place.”

Their debut EP, TALKS, has been released on September 30th. Featuring their first single
‘Anyway’, which has been featured on several blogs and new music discovery apps, such as The
Best Song. The record starts with TALKS, which the EP is named after. TALKS basically sums
up everything that goes on between the girls. This upbeat song is an ode to all the messy
friendships the duo had in the past. The second track on the record, ‘Stories’, is catchy and it’s
about having the ideal princess like wedding that girls used to imagine when they were little. Their
uplifting single ‘Anyway’ is track number three. It’s about that sweet little wave coming from the
years after high school into adolescence. ‘Frenzy’ is the fourth track on the record. It starts as a
simple and mellow song with just a ukulele. Then it progresses into a more complicated mix of
synths and pop. The last track on the EP is ‘Hot October’. Where autumn is at its best, the duo
creates a warm and intimate sound to this cold season.

Ward & Sahraei is an up-lifting act where the feet would definitely move and heads would bang.

Verena Ward is one end of the spectrum. She’s always been busy writing and making music. She
has performed on many stages (throughout Rotterdam) and is not going to stop any time soon.
Ward is ambitious and therefore is not afraid to dream. On the other side, we have Maral Sahraei
to whom the singer-songwriting world is a newfound hobby. With just her ukulele, camera and
book she travels around in search of inspiration. This adventurer does not only explore the real
world, it is the fictional world that helps her think outside of the box.
