Warm Hats was born in December of 2006, when Nathan Boyar and Seth Goldman, two Brooklyn boys born clutching their guitars, met on a Park Slope rooftop and played till dawn. They soon recorded an acoustic demo in Seth's dorm room, and began playing intimate shows across New York City, establishing a loyal and very loud fan base in the process.
In March of 2007, Nathan recruited high school chum Danilo Randjic-Coleman to take over on the bass. Danilo, who has played with John Zorn, Jonathan Maran, and Marty Ehrlich, among others, immediately injected a complex melodic and rhythmic sensibility into the band. Seth soon brought along a Guitar Center co-worker named Mr. Santa to take over on the drums, and the Warm Hats were complete. Unfortunately, after only three concerts, Mr. Santa, who had moved in with Seth to avoid homelessness, was fired when he inexplicably fled to Tallahassee with Seth's credit card in tow. Needless to say, the band was crushed.
Resolve came in the form of Zoe Shmitt, a childhood friend of Nathan's who returned to NY in 2007 after drifting across the west coast for several years. Daughter of established folk musician, Stuffy Shmitt, Zoe has been playing drums since she was ten years old and was an instant hit, holding her own during a drunken rehearsal where a creative impetus between the four musicians was established.
For Warm Hats, playing songs is necessary. It's the one thing they know how to do. Seth, Nathan, Danilo, and Zoe, will do whatever it takes for people to hear them rock.
