Lyrics

Help You Momma

Written By: Warren Pulley

[Verse 1]

When I was a little boy
I woke to the sound of crying
My momma and daddy were fighting
It sounded like she was dying

I walked down the hall in fear
To see if I could help my momma
My daddy was so big and angry
That I froze with fear and trauma

I watched him knock her to the ground
I screamed out daddy why?
He said you cant help your momma
So dont stand there and cry

My daddy walked out that door
And I never saw him again
I sat on the floor with my momma
And cried out again and again

[Chours]
Im here to help you momma
Momma please dont cry (dont cry)
I'll be a good little boy
I wont bring you tears at night
I dried my momma's tears
And put her to bed with a kiss
I told her these few simple words
And I hope she never forgets
Im here to help you momma (x4)

[Verse 2]
Im seventeen years old now and
My momma is all that I have
We barely have food on the table
Shes dying from work and stress
So I take a gun from the cabinet
And rob me a person or two
I bring home the money to momma
She screams out what did you do?

Then there was a knock on the door
The sheriff come took me away
I looked back and saw my momma
Just crying her heart away
She fell to her knee and prayed god
That I would come home someday

And I said....

[Chorus]
I tried to help you momma
Momma please dont cry (dont cry)
I'll be a good little boy
I wont bring you tears at night
I know you walk this road with me
And I plan to do right
I told her these few simple words
And I hope she never forgets
Im here to help you momma (x4)

[Verse 3]
Im twenty five years old now
And I got a call at my job
A doctor tells me to come quickly
My mother was struck by a car
He said she is hurt pretty badly
She may not make it at all
She asking for you every second
I would get her before shes gone

I got to my momma's bedside
And she put a smile on her face
She said Im happy that you came son
Just stay with me dont walk away
Through all the trouble and tough times
Youve always been my strength
We'll get through this together
Just like every other thing

And I cried....

[Chrous]

Im here to help you momma
Momma please dont cry (dont cry)
I'll be a good little boy
I'll nurse you through the night
I told her these few simple words
And I hope she never forgets
Im here to help you momma (x4)

[Verse 4]

Im forty five years old now
Im standing on stage under lights
The announcer hands me a trophy
Tells me tonight is my night

I look in the crowd for my momma
Shes part of the standing ovation
Im so weak I can hardly stand
But I silence the crowd (I silence)
with the wave of my had

I turned and looked at momma
And I simply said.....

[Chorus]

Now I can help you momma
Momma please dont cry (dont cry)
Ive become a fine young man now
Through your guidance and light
And Im still your good little boy
So lets just enjoy this night (long)

I told her these few simple words
And I hope she never forgets
Im here to help you momma (x4)

fades out with the last line.
