Poetry In Motion

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

He heard a new girl was in town
And she could really dance
And looking in those eyes so brown
He thought he’d take a chance,
She was the prettiest girl
that he’d ever seen,
And the moment he asked her to dance,
It felt just like a dream.

CHORUS
She was his Ginger Rogers,
He was her Fred Astaire,
When they took the dance floor
Everyone stopped and stared.
They made it look easy,
With style and with grace,
And everyone there had the notion,
They were watching poetry in motion.

She became his dancing partner,
Then became his wife,
They raised two lovely daughters,
They had a real good life.
And every Christmas morning,
Their girls would clap for joy,
As they watched their mom and daddy dance
Across the kitchen floor.

CHORUS
She was his Ginger Rogers,
He was her Fred Astaire,
When they took the dance floor,
Everyone stopped and stared.
They made it look easy,
With style and with grace
And everyone there had the notion
They were watching poetry in motion.

BRIDGE
She heard the doctor,
her whole world shattered,
She thought of fifty years,
They’d lived and loved and danced together,
She whispered in his ear.

CHORUS 2
I’m your Ginger Rogers,
You’re my Fred Astaire,
When you get where you’re going,
Just wait for me there,
When we dance in heaven
The angels will stare,
They will all see our devotion,
While God’s watching our poetry in motion.

I Know Those Hands

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

My mother held my hands up and she smiled,
She said, “You really do have such nice hands.”
Then she looked down at her own hands and she sighed,
She thought her hands were ugly, but I didn’t understand.
You see...
I know those hands,
The hands she thought unsightly, held me gently on her knee.
I trust those hands...
The hands that held mine tightly as we crossed a busy street.
I love those hands,
Those beautiful hands...
I saw those hands so often clasped in prayer,
And I would know them anywhere.

Jesus held his hand out and he smiled,
“Thomas, stop your doubting and believe.
I know you need to touch my hand and side.”
But Thomas cried, “Lord Jesus, I have seen all that I need.”
You see...
I know those hands,
Hands that bled on Calvary, held the children on Your knee.
I trust those hands...
Those hands held Peter tightly as he sank beneath the sea.
I love those hands,
Those beautiful hands....
I saw them in the garden clasped in prayer,
And I would know them anywhere.

The Lord reached down and took my mother’s hand.
He took her home to be with him one day.
In time I know that I will understand,
He’ll take me up to heaven, then I’ll shout and I will say
You see...
I’ll know those hands,
My mother’s hands familiar, now in heaven glorified.
I’ll trust those hands...
I know that when the time comes and I cross that great divide.
I’ll love those hands,
Those beautiful hands...
Those nail scarred hands have held me in his care.
And I would know them anywhere.

Set Me as a Seal

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

Set me as a seal upon your heart.
And anywhere in this world that you roam,
The imprint of my love will lead you home.

No time or distance can keep us apart.
Oh, set me as a seal upon your heart.

Set me as a seal upon your arm.
In all this world there is no other place
I’d rather be than in your warm embrace.

Our love will be a shelter from the storm.
Oh, set me as a seal upon your arm.

Set me as a seal upon your eyes.
For you alone know who I really am.
In love and trust, together hand in hand.

We’ll have no need of pretense or disguise.
Oh, set me as a seal upon your eyes.

Set me a seal upon your soul.
For God alone has brought us to this place,
Surrounded by His love, amazed by grace,

From this day on and always to have and to hold.
Oh, set me as a seal upon your soul.

Mississippi Coast

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

The sun glittered like diamonds
As it sparkled on the waves,
I sat beside the window of an
old beach side café,
The waitress said, I’m Susie,
How are you today?
The special’s on the menu,
What can I get you, babe?

Pour me a cup of sunlight, dancing on the waters,
Pack up the sound of sea gulls crying as they
Glide across the shore,
I need a piece of white sand beach
On the Gulf of Mexico,
A slice of life, my paradise,
The Mississippi Coast.

I grew up with my family
A mile or two down from here,
On Saturdays, my dad and me
Went fishing off that pier,
I learned to strum my guitar there,
Man, those were such good days,
All morning I’ve been wondering
why I ever moved away.

Pour me a cup of sunlight, dancing on the waters,
Pack up the sound of sea gulls crying as they
Glide across the shore,
I need a piece of white sand beach
On the Gulf of Mexico,
A slice of life, my paradise,
The Mississippi Coast.

I could take the boat out to Ship Island,
Smell the salt air, feel the ocean spray,
Take a chance that Lady Luck is smiling
Or catch the sunset bright as beads
From a Mardi Gras parade

Pour me a cup of sunlight, dancing on the waters,
Pack up the sound of sea gulls crying as they
Glide across the shore,
I need a piece of white sand beach
On the Gulf of Mexico,
A slice of life, my paradise,
The Mississippi Coast.

The Love That Drove Me Crazy

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

Driving down this old highway,
It seems like only yesterday,
I pushed my beat up car
way past the limit,
We were young and so in love,
Couldn't get there fast enough,
I just could not wait another minute.

I was reckless, wild and bold,
Lord, I just flew down this road,
I knew that at the end
I'd find you waiting,
I know that we can't go back when,
But Baby, now and then,
I sure miss the love that drove me crazy.

Now we travel different roads,
I sold that old car long ago,
To that old junkyard on 52,
Ever since you went away,
I gotta tell you there are days,
My heart just wants to race straight back to you.

I was reckless, wild and bold,
Lord, I just flew down this road,
I knew that at the end I'd find you waiting,
I know that we can't go back when,
But Baby, now and then,
I sure miss the love that drove me crazy.

Life happens fast and we have to choose,
But nowadays I seem to
live my life on fumes,

I was reckless, wild and bold,
Lord, I just flew down this road,
I knew that at the end I'd find you waiting,
I know that we can't go back when,
But Baby, now and then,
I sure miss the love that drove me crazy.

I sure miss the love that drove me crazy.

You'll Be Number One

Written By: Love Loftis

Jenny's standing next to Bobby
just a skinny boy in jeans,
He's kicking dust and staring down
while the captain chooses teams.
He pulls his cap down on his face,
He acts like he don't care,
But deep inside he's praying that the Lord will hear his prayer.

CHORUS
Pick me, choose me,
I really want to play,
Come on, you'll see,
I've been waiting for this day,
Jenny says, One day you'll show them all,
One day your time will come,
One day you'll be number one.

Bobby sees her from the back row,
auditorium, 10th grade,
Jenny's BLUE eyes shine so bright, trying out for the high school play,
She waits to hear them call her name,
She pretends like she don't care,
But deep inside she's praying that the Lord will hear her prayer.

CHORUS
Pick me, choose me, I WANT UP on that stage,
Come on, you'll see,
I've been waiting for this day,
Bobby says, One day you'll show them all,
One day your time will come,
One day you'll be number one.

BRIDGE
Ten years of chasing his dreams, how that skinny kid has grown,
Bobby's playing for a farm team, the reunion brings him home,
HE SEES A DARK HAIRED BEAUTY AS HE WALKS INTO THE GYM,
He hears she's been in a few movies, BOBBY takes her by the hand,

CHORUS
Pick me, choose me, I prayed you'd be here tonight, ??? I PRAYED I'D SEE YOU TONIGHT,
Come on, you'll see
I've been waiting all my life,
Jenny says, I knew we'd show them all,
Yeah, I knew our time would come,
I always knew that you'd be my number one.

TAG
Jenny's standing next to Bobby,
something borrowed, something blue,
He'll always be her biggest fan,
She'll always be there for him, too.

Trouble in Paradise

Written By: Love Loftis

VERSE
Couldn’t wait to take this tropical vacation,
We’d walk along at sunset, holding hands,
But this has turned into a real strange situation,
Nothing’s going on exactly like I planned,

CHORUS
Thought this would be the perfect island get away,
Thought you and me would make our great escape,
Thought we could leave our cares behind
but they chased us anyway,
You’re smiling but there’s goodbye in your eyes,
Looks like trouble’s found us here in paradise.

VERSE
The beaches look just like a picture postcard,
Like your sweet eyes, the water’s deep and blue,
Love used to be so easy, how’d it get so hard?
Has to be a reason, wish I knew the truth,

CHORUS
Thought this would be the perfect island get away,
Thought you and me would make our great escape,
Thought we could leave our cares behind
But they chased us anyway,
You’re smiling but there’s goodbye in your eyes,
Looks like trouble’s found us here in paradise.

BRIDGE
Why did we let this crazy world pull us apart,
We’ve lost our way just like Adam and Eve,
Maybe beneath these swaying palms and twinkling stars
We’ll ignite the spark that will lead our hearts
Back to where we used to be.

CHORUS
Thought this would be the perfect island getaway,
Thought you and me would make our great escape,,
Thought we could leave our cares behind,
But they chased us anyway,
You’re smiling but there’s goodbye in your eyes,.
Looks like troubles found us here in paradise.

Yeah, it’s not too late to give it one more try,
We’ll lose the troubles that have found us here in paradise.

Some Songs Were Meant to Be

Written By: Love Loftis & Ray Duplessie

VERSE
He gave his love a music box,
Inside there was a ballerina dancing,
He said I know that it ain’t much,
It’s simple like me, not what you’d call fancy,
But when I heard the tune it played,
It made me think of you,
And all I want til my last day
Is to play it sweet and true.

CHORUS
He said,
Some songs were meant to be,
Just look at you and me,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
He said
Some songs were meant to be
for all eternity,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
Some songs were meant to be.

VERSE
He wound up that music box,
Took her in his arms and started dancing,
He whispered you look beautiful
In your white dress, she said you sure look handsome,
He played it for her on the day
They had their first big fight,
No sweeter tune was ever played
When they made up that night.

CHORUS
He said
Some songs were meant to be,
Just look at you and me,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
He said
Some songs were meant to be
For all eternity,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
Some songs were meant to be.

BRIDGE
The day they heard their baby cry
That song rang through the rafters,
And note by note they built a home,
Filled with love and laughter.

CHORUS
He said,
Some songs were meant to be,
Just look at you and me,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
He said,
Some songs were meant to be
For all eternity,
We’ve found us a melody of love,
Some songs were meant to be.

Where Did You Lay It Down

Written By: Love Loftis

VERSE 1
Your clothes are in the closet,
Your pillow’s on the bed,
Your book is on the nightstand
Open to the page you read,
You say that since you’ve come back home
Everything’s the same
But something’s missing, something’s wrong
Something has really changed.

CHORUS
What happened to your heart?
Where did the feelings go?
It’s getting really hard
to find the man I used to know,
You’re lying next to me
But your love’s nowhere around,
What happened to your heart?
Where did you lay it down?
Lay it down,
Where did you lay your heart down?
VERSE 2
I miss the way you used to smile
when you’d come home at night.
I miss the way you’d reach for me
When I turned out the light.
Maybe if we retraced our steps,
We’d find the missing key.
And while we’re at it,
Do you think that you could tell me please…
CHORUS
What happened to your heart?
Where did the feelings go?
It’s getting really hard to find
The man I used to know,
You’re lying next to me
But your love’s nowhere around,
What happened to your heart?
Where did you lay it down?
Lay it down,
Where did you lay your heart down?
