Recording artist STIX came out of hiding this weekend to attend the 51st Grammy Award festivities. The Sum Genius/Universal Records recording artist was spotted Saturday evening at Grammy Award Winner Lil Wayne’s pre Grammy celebration at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The Watts City native has successfully built a worldwide following for his music. STIX has performed with Grammy Award nominated artist Tyrese, on two world tours. He was the host and headline performer on the Burger King Kings of the Court tour around the country. STIX has ripped the stages of some of Hollywood's most renowned clubs and headlined at a number of Los Angeles County middle school and high school tours.
STIX's musical ingenuity has warranted him accreditation in magazines like The Source, True magazine, All-Hood, and Song Buzz. He has had multiple mentions on Hip-Hop websites such as: Hip-Hop.com, Dubbcnn.com (noting STIX release of 6 mix tapes in 6 weeks), westcoastrydaz.com, ballerstatus.com, and dastreetbuzz.com; among others. Recording artist STIX attends the Hip Hop 101 Music & Arts Festival in hometown of Los Angeles, California Watts, California native and Universal/Sum Genius recording artist STIX attended the Hip Hop 101 Music & Arts Festival at the Los Angeles Sports Arena this weekend in celebration of Black History Month. Hosted by multi-platinum selling artists Common and Ludacris, the event was undoubtedly one of the most unique tributes to Black History Month the West Coast has ever seen.
With LA’s top dance schools break dancing, DJ Sleeper on the ones and twos, a live graffiti art exhibit and a stellar lineup of Grammy winning artists on one stage, the four elements of hip hop were in full effect. Entertainers including Common, Janelle Monae, Ludacris, Xzibit, DJ Muggs LeToya Luckett and John Salley were amongst the other famed talent who attended the festival of culture and unity.
Keeping with the theme of Hip Hop as a respect to Black History month, STIX has released 2Notorious, his expression of homage to two of the most influential talents in hip hop, 2Pac and The Notorious BIG. STIX has compiled 2Notorious, to include his lyrical content on the legends most popular tracks. Additionally, this month STIX has also released The Obama Act: Change In Progress, a tribute artists and producers on the West Coast.
2Notorious and The Obama Act: Change In Progress, are merely two mixtapes in a series of six scheduled to be released in the months preceding the debut of STIX’s much anticipated solo album Late For Registration due out, Aug 18th, 2009. *Tyrese's new protégé, Watts native Stix, releases his solo project "Late for Soundcheck" on July 7 via iTunes, Amazon.com and in Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart. The album's sound "is reminiscent of Kanye West’s release '808’s & Heartbreak' mixed with a touch of 50 Cent's 'Get Rich or Die Trying,'" according to a press release. The first single is titled “Shining Star” and the follow up is called, "I'm Fly." Stix, aka Brandon Salaam-Bailey, is a founding member of the rock band Life Nine, who recently inked a production deal with Tyrese's Headquarter Entertainment. Police sirens and helicopters keep him awake at night. In the heart of Watts, CA, STIX is too familiar with the mishaps of the ‘hood. Red, white and blue lights shine through his curtains as he scribbles lyrics on a pad and nods to beats in his head, writing and dreaming of a life outside of the ghetto and shooting to stardom. Coming from meager beginnings, day-to-day life in Watts serves as the driving force behind one of L.A.’s most promising talents, Brandon Salaam-Bailey a.k.a. STIX.
STIX is definitely a force to be recognized. He successfully put together a rock band which consist of a 5 piece including a lead singer, drummer, lead guitar, bassist, and DJ called LIFE NINE. LIFE NINE recently nailed a production deal with superstar artist Tyrese Gibson’s company Headquarter Entertainment.
