Wave n400

Band Pop EDM

I first heard of the band Wave n400 back in 2009 when they entered a nationwide competition we were running to find new talent and offer them some free time in Toybox Studios as the first prize.

We had thousands of entries and the selection process was very difficult, as there were many great artists and we were picking by committee.

But the one band that we all agreed upon were called Aye Aye, and when we contacted then, we found out they were actually from Spain and had recently moved to Bristol.

The songs they entered for the competition were fresh, innovative yet also very aware of new music that was starting to emerge from both sides of the Atlantic. Music we all loved. And we chose them as winners because they were by far the most forward looking and unique act we heard.

The CD they subsequently recorded in our studio managed to capture their freshness and live sound in all its glory and was very well received, allowing them to pick up some great gigs and support slots through 2010 and 2011.

Fast forward to 2012, the band is still going, but now renamed Wave n400, with some line-up changes. And they have taken the things they learned from their experience in the studio and decided to partake in the production process a lot more.

We recorded some basic tracks for them again at Toybox, but then gave them the parts to go away and work on the arrangements themselves, with some fantastic results.

They have broadened their sonic palate and worked a lot more on their vocals on their new self-produced EP. Lyrically much darker and echoing last summer’s riots in Bristol and London they have continued to write innovative yet accessible music still very much in keeping with their original sound, but better conceived and executed in every single way.

The band are also extremely self-motivated and organised and a pleasure to work with. And I believe they have every chance of taking this music to the masses.
