"Hip Hop Ya Don't Stop"

"If you see Alpha P MC Asun around the way, you can check him for Project Mayhem's Foot Traffic mix tape. Project Mayhem is a hiphop collective that consists of, among others, Alpha P, Mind Movers, and up-and-coming turntablist crew the Elefaders. Without a tracklist, it can be hard to tell everybody apart, but there are some great moments to be found here nonetheless."

"Charles Mudede"

"If you are raising future generations of hiphoppers and looking for some good times this weekend, come celebrate the rich pageant of hiphop culture at Seattle Center's Festival Sundiata. Check out the Pavilion Room and join Seattle's chapter of the Universal Zulu Nation as they celebrate their second anniversary. 206 Zulu is joined by such friends as Silent Lambs Project, RA Scion, Gabe Teodros, Piece, BYC, Cyphalliance, dRED-i, Mind Movers, Alpha-P, Aluzjun, and DJs Topspin, WD4D, Risk One, Surreal, and the Elefaders. Rawkus Records nostalgists will also be interested to know that Mr. Shabaam Sahdeeq will be rocking there as well. Sunday will also feature a break battle with DJ Scene, so make sure your kids have those routines trump tight, parents! "

"Hip Hop Ya Don't Stop"

Yes, the impact of KRS-One's recent visit continues to be felt as SCIONtific Records brings us the Eighth Annual Hiphop Appreciation Week (sponsored by the Temple of Hiphop) May 15-21. The kickoff is on Sunday, May 15 at the Vera Project and hosted by our poet laureate Laura "Piece" Kelley. Peep selections spun by DJs B-Girl, D-Doxx, and Dirty Dev among others, and b-boying from members of the top 206 crews; not to mention performances from (among many others) Silent Lambs Project, dRED-i, Cyphalliance, Nocturnal Rage, Cancer Rising, RA Scion, Gabe Teodros, Altered States of Consciousness, Mind Movers, and Unexpected Arrival! All you have to do is be there.

"Hip Hop Ya Don't Stop"

Pay attention: It is so necessary I give a huge SWAT-team-bullhorn shout to the homie Nathaniel Seven, King of the Freaks. The Seattle Semi-Pro Wrestling cofounder and well-known local treasure is currently laid up in the hospital, unfortunately just as SSP's annual Chronic Pain event is going down (Wednesday, April 19, at Consolidated Works). Featuring the considerable talents of 206 Rhymesayers Grayskul (currently putting the finishing touches on their next official album Bloody Radio), the mufuckin' Mind Movers massive, and of course the brutish, senseless violence of SSP's own brain-damaged wrestlers. If you're a friend and wanna support Nathaniel in his hour of need, or just need some thrills on "Chronic Eve," fall through Consolidated Works and get you some this evening, friend.

"Hip Hop Ya Don't Stop"

The next day, Neumo's plays host to Seattle's true underground collective Project Mayhem, as they present sets from Alpha P, Mind Movers, and BYC Crew. Project Mayhem are a shadowy collective of crews and individuals dedicated to that raw shit—our best intel tells us their membership includes: Alpha P (Asun and Jerm), Mind Movers (Inkubiz, Phreewil, Ses, Open Hands, Mic Flont, Khanfidenz), Rajnii, Language Arts, the Elefaders (DJs Showbot, Able, Hail), Mixed Mediums, Proof of Life, DJ B-Girl, Verideth, Robbery Runamuk, and Gabriel Teodros.

Mind Movers recently presented the Think Tank compilation, chock-full of brand-new material from most of the Project Mayhem artists and others. The 21 tracks and the wide range of collaboration, while providing a couple skippable moments, bring 'nuff rewindable standouts, such as the evil-sounding cold-world screed "Texas Instruments," featuring scathing verses from Khingz, Phreewil, Inkubiz, and Asun. That's my joint right there! Overall, the production (provided by Phreewil, OC Notes, Cin 7, and Unorthodox Zero) is upbeat and crate deep. The basement sounds are spiked with a little Afrobeat here, a little Latin jazz there. Take in the show, 206-hop fans, and take a CD or three home with you. - The Stranger

"Poster of the Week"

(Nectar) Readers of the Stranger will no doubt be familiar with tonight's second opening act, Gabriel Teodros. Teodros' debut full-lenth, Lovework, which Charles Mudede hailed as "aggressively feminist" and "a gorgeous work of hiphop," was a landmark record in a year of big 206 hiphop releases. Perhaps less familiar are headliners Waves of the Mind, a trio of MCs - Inkubiz, Mic Flont and Khanfidenz - and producer Phreewil, representing local crew Mind Movers. Their production brims with dark soul samples, and their delivery caries from MC to MC, from lazy rasp to agile double-time to jumbled, slightly off-beat multisyllabics. Of the four tracks posted on their website, "Future Generation," with its electronic buzz and anthemic chorus, is the clear standout. Teodros also appears with Abyssinian Creole, where his casual, conscious flow is offset by Khingz's smart breathless swagger.

"Mind Movers present"

Tonite @ Nectar they headline a release party for the Movers' Think Tank Compilation, along with Gabriel Teodros, Alpha P, Abyssinian Creole, Rajnii Eddins, Sista Hailstorm, King Khazm, Julie C., Rik Rude, Project Mayhem, The Elefaders and DJ WD4D.

Bio

Waves of the Mind is a project spawned from 4 entities of the Mind Movers. This trio of emcees are seasoned veterans, bringing 7 years of studio and stage experience to the table. As a part of the Mind Movers, Waves of the Mind has played major venues across the country from Seattle and California on the west coast to New York and Boston on the east coast. Spending the last seven years in Seattle, Waves of the Mind has worked with, performed with and woven themselves into the fabric of the Seattle Hip Hop scene.

Inkubiz is the vet of the crew. Fifteen years of writing manifested into one man's style, Inkubiz brings consistently solid hard hitting raps, a raspy east coast style and high energy to any performance. The man is a beast on the stage!

Khanfidenz is the youngest of the crew. But don't get it twisted, Gengis Khanfidenz is a dope lyricist with an explosive delivery and many call him the future of the Mind Movers. He captivates the crowd with his great voice and high energy.

Mic Flont is the counter style to the east coast styles of Inkubiz and Khanfidenz. Mic Flont aka Rue Won is known for his quick-witted, double time, west coast style and politically based lyrics. He also adds a little experimental twist to the crew with his unorthodox cadence changes.

Phree Wil is one of the fastest rising producers in Seattle and is the mastermind behind the beats and production of this project. His style of beats cannot be pigeon holed and many call him the most diverse producer in Seattle.

Waves of the Mind will be dropping their self-titled album in 2010.
