Bio
Vancouver-based Wax Theatrics packs a punch with a blend of power and psychedelic pop to challenge common composition boundaries. In collaboration with producer Darren Grahn, they released their first full-length, self-titled album in 2019. Wax Theatrics was conceived in Chilliwack, BC, in 2010. Over the next decade, the band had a long changing rotation of musicians, with Matthew Zacharias as the constant driving force. In 2013 Matthew formalized the project as the primary songwriter/vocalist and multi-instrumentalist alongside drummer Brian Kavanagh. After the 2019 album release, Matthew reconnected with his childhood friend Alana Thorburn-Watt while searching for a video production agency to record the video for its debut single, “Secret Lovers.” Alana directed and produced the video and introduced David Acuna, her husband, to Matthew and Brian. David subsequently introduced his longtime friend Oscar Medina to the band, and in March 2020, they all decided to join forces and propel Wax Theatrics into the Canadian Music Scene. Their style has been sonically compared to Queen, Meatloaf, and Elton John by Eric McLellan; and Ben Folds, Talk Talk, and Todd Rundgren by Alan Cross.
