Bio

The inspiration of hip-hop and the soul of gospel masterfully painted on the canvas of jazz music. Sounds that touch the spirit like vibrant colors splashed on the canvas of the soul. Harmonic notes played in sequence telling a story of faith, redemption, love and praise. This is the movement, and its marshal is saxophonist Wayne Dickens. Alabama born and breed, Waynes musical aspirations began at the age of four when he demonstrated a love for playing the drums and for singing in his fathers church. As time progressed, he uncovered a passion for playing the alto saxophone which he nurtured through practice and prayer. Over the years, he has polished his skills by sharing the stage with jazz and gospel notables such as Marvin Sapp, Twinkie Clark, Karen Clark, Ricky Dillard, James Moore, Lecresia Campbell, Shun Pace, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Vicki Yohe, The Williams Brothers, Shirley Caesar, Dottie Peoples, The Canton Spirituals, Ann Nesbitt, Jeffery Osborne and Jonathan Slocomb. Wayne has recorded with the Central Georgia State Mass Choir, the Alabama State Mass Choir COGIC and Richard (Mr. Clean) White. He is currently holding the position of musician in the J.O. Patterson International Orchestra for the Churches of God In Christ, the New Life Church of God In Christ band, the Jamel Strong and Message Singers band, and Kelly Lake Church of God in Christ band. Wayne has also served as jazz ambassador to the world by performing at the 1996 Centennial Olympics in Atlanta, GA. In 1995 he released his first project entitled Security and is currently embarking upon his second full length solo project. Successfully blending many genres of music into one style driven by gospel, Wayne has forged his latest release Broken English. The album is designed to paint a picture of spiritual growth and rebirth in the mind of the listener through the use of neo-soul, hip-hop, and inspirational jazz tracks laced with Waynes electrifying improvisational saxophone delivery. His style, inspired by the likes of Najee, Gerald Albright, Dave Coz and David Sanborn to name a few, is sure to welcome you into his world, share his artistry, and invite you to join him on his musical journey of praise and worship.
