Wayne Firechess Melody

Listen to the stories from a 2010 man in Babylon transitioning from Jamaica Country to Toronto Town. While coming of age in St. Catherine he was exposed to the biz and looked to his Father as a role model and example of a music man in yard who played with one of the country’s top Sounds, “Super Destroyer”. He also had the loving support of his Mother who encouraged his passions and instilled hard work ethics.

“Well we start in Jamaica and we know bout music in which my Father have a sound system and he always used to play him sound and we always used to play music so we develop a love fi it from then, you know love the MIC and love to sing and DJ. First when I did start to take it on seriously was when we record the tune with IWayne, “Mama and Papa” and after doing that track with him, a lot of people come to me and give me a lot of motivation cause they want to see more from me, you know?”

It is no secret that Jamaica bares talent and FireChess strives to harvest his craft. He has performed with top talent and is a seasoned and recognized stage performer. FireChess grew up with fellow artists IWayne and Gyptian and still maintains those friendships today. They always used to sing together FireChess recalls and the hit “Mama and Papa”by IWayne featuring FireChess off the IWayne Lava Ground album was a significant song and a long time in the making which they meditated and wrote it together, “I went to Jamaica to do the song with him and returned back to Canada and since then I’ve been to Sting and performed with him at Port More and when he is here too, so people dem, when me go Jamaica, like Irie FM and those Ellis Kelly, GT Taylor they always want to hear more music so that just give we motivation for me to keep doing music. I love doing music, you hear?”

FireChess has a very cool and easy- going demeanor and his enthusiasm for music shows that he just wants everyone to have a good time. It has been said that his music awakens a memory that you have, an amusing anecdote and he brings out a feeling of being somewhere familiar which cannot be denied. To many DJ’s, he is known as “The Voice” and is known by radio in Toronto and Jamaica. “We ‘medi-tune’, we meds- stew but we don’t really just sit with the pen and paper, we make tune during our everyday movements. What we see around us what we feel through the day our experience so other people can relate to it”, explains FireChess.

FireChess has made many significant strides to touch others with his voice and whenever he is in front of the MIC or an audience large or small, he leaves them reminiscing on the joys of performing that drives his career. FireChess expresses his drive, “Well, just never stop, never give up because you don’t know when is the time because sometime as soon as you going to give up that is the time when ting is going to come because it’s not every day that the rain is going to fall or the sun is going to shine but whatever you are going through always stay strong and remember pray because we cannot do nothing without the Most High you know? So, but we love music and we keep doing music cause we come from a far long way you know?”
