Bio

We Are Space Horses is an indie heavy psychedelic three-piece band that started in
northeast Pennsylvania. Kevin Vanderhoof is the founder of the band, and has been
involved with many other projects in his time as a guitarist and singer over the past ten
years including King Dead, a doom band, and The Killer Pines which was a blues/avant
guard group. He asked Gabbi Thomsen to join as the bass player after seeing her play at a
festival with her past project According To Columbus, an alternative rock group. The
two have been working on groove driven, spacey psych since 2017 and things had gotten a bit more serious after being asked to join on a show for charity in August of that year. Eric
Hochwald is the newest member of the band and has joined as the drummer as of
November of 2018.
They have played many heavy psych festivals and shows all over the northeast with bands like King Buffalo and Tusko.

Their first official release, Apologia, is a narrative on justification for ones actions, as
well as serving as a coping mechanism for the trauma of losing people they were close
to from addiction. It takes a weighty influence from the giants of psych such as Tool,
Pink Floyd, CAN, and The Soft Machine. They marry vintage effects with modern ones
on just about every individual beat for a dense wash of spacey sound. Each individual
track showcases the strengths of one or more of the members at one time and each song
is influenced by a separate sub genre of psych music, showing off just how diverse the
genre can be. “Our music is like if Pink Floyd was influenced by Tool, and not the other
way around” is the fun way Kevin uses to describe the group.
