"New Lineup New Name"

While some secrets are best kept under wraps, the XPress is letting this one out of the bag.

Even as local pop-rockers The Hussies gear up to release their six-song EP "Simple Songs for Complicated People", this week at Zaphod's the band will be unveiling new music and a new name.

On the hunt for new collaborators, Hussies founder Stefani Guzman located singer-guitarist Josh Giff of Brockville's Sweet Nothing. With mutual likes/dislikes, and ambitions fully in synch, the two met up in person.

"It felt like a blind date," jokes Guzman. "Then it happened so fast." Giff soon brought fellow Sweet Nothing players, drummer Justin Brydges and bassist Will Attley, on board, and the songwriting took a natural turn.

After the release of "Simple Songs for Complicated People", which features pre-Giff-Brydges-Attley tunes, the band will adopt its new name, We Are Accidents, to reflect the progressions the music has taken. This week's show will comprise tracks from both configurations.

A debut We Are Accidents album is already in the mastering stage, and XPress got a chance to preview the goods. The new songs deliver stronger hooks and more compelling guitars, with a nice hint of synth. As well, Guzman aggressively tackles the vocals complimenting the thick guitars. Catchy yet edgy, and makes for good dance numbers.

Tune into the change on Friday April 28 at Zaphod's with the Hussies, For the Mathematics and Turning Into Salt. (JT)
