Genre – Almost There (video)
June 11, 2010 by milwaukeeup

I’ll be honest, I have no idea who Genre is. If you are aware of their story, then you can skip all the reading. For those of you who aren’t up on them as well, they are a rap group in Milwaukee that apparently have been getting looks from places like Grand Hustle. However, the looks they were getting turned out to be just that as no contracts were presented to the group.

I don’t know their story beyond what they’ve presented in the song but I think it’s a bold track to make and it’s honestly awesome to hear. So many people are lying their asses off about how they are making it and here you have a group that is confessing the opposite. Owning what are considered “losses” is what makes people stronger, and this song definitely comes off as being them bouncing back with strength instead of allowing them to be weakened by complaining. I find that refreshing and engaging.

Here is the video for the song that explains the situation. It’s called “Almost There” and was directed by VIBES Multimedia owner A-Boogiano.

"SHOWOUT TO REAL MUSIC"

Genre personally impressed me with the Almost There track alone. It seems they took one situation and made a catchy, deep, melodic, lyrical, substance strong, etc. so many categories of hip hop were covered with the track. I ended up feeling like i was almost there with them after listening to the song a few times. A few points in the storyline were repetitive but with the story being facts you almost can't complain about it being consistent. A Stronger lyricist might have been able to add more personal aspects to the story (as the last artist did) but overall i was satisfied with the lyrical content, not impressed but satisfied. The song as a whole however was very impressive the covered three emotions of the storyline with each artist, one being the artist content with his position and willing to keep working, one being the artist who feels let down and is tired of the constant struggle, and one artist taking the angry perspective on the situation. Definitely worth a few listens on your ipod play list Genre has created a blueprint for a lot of local artist to follow with the phrase "be real". This is literally my first listen of the group and i already have a picture of what type of musicians and people they are through quality in depth music. Kudos! - MILWAUKEE MUSIC CLASS

""IM MY OWN BOSS" OFFICIAL VIDEO BY "GENRE""

I know that it’s not technically the weekend yet as of the time that I’m posting this (before noon on Friday) but I’m sure the weekend is on everyone’s mind so with THAT in mind I’m going to deliver my newest edition of “It’s The Weekend”.

In keeping with the tradition of providing for you club/trap/crunk for your weekend enjoyment, here is a new video for a new song by Genre…a group that I featured on the blog several weeks ago. The name of the song is “I’m My Own Boss” (directed by Aboogiano, owner of V.I.B.E.S. Multimedia…who also did Genre’s video for “Almost There”).

So until the weekend hits for you, you can listen to this song and daydream about moving keys and being a entrepeneur, and then keep it rolling to the clubs…if Milwaukee isn’t completely flooded by tonight that is. Y’all stay safe out there.

THE NEW AND IMPROVED HIP HOP GROUP “GENRE” FORMELY KNOWN TO THE WORLD AS S.M.S “SO MUCH SWAG“, BUT SEEING SWAG QUICKLY BECAME A COMMON TREND AND KNOWING THE MUSIC THESE GUYS MAKE YOU WOULD KNOW THERES NOTHING COMMON OR TYPICAL ABOUT THIS TRIPLE THREAT. WRITING MUSIC FROM EVERY GENRE OF MUSIC HIP HOP, POP, R&B, ROCK ETC. AND DEFINING THE WORD TO ITS TRUE MEANING “ A CATEGORY OF ARTISTIC COMPOSITION, AS IN MUSIC OR LITERATURE, CHARACTERIZED BY SIMILARITIES IN FORM OF AUTHENTIC STYLE” IT WAS ONLY RIGHT TO PICK THE PERFECT NAME THAT FIT THIS TRIO - GENRE’ SCRIPT, MAC & SPEED WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THIS TRIO, THEY ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF HIP-HOPS UP & COMING GROUPS TO BE RECKONED WITH. FORMERLY ALL SOLO ARTISTS, THE GROUP LINKED UP IN THE SPRING OF 2008 COURTESY OF MARIO “ BIG HOMEY” McCOY WHO FELT LIKE THE COMBINATION OF SCRIPTS’ LYRICS MIXED WITH MACS’ MELODIES & SPEEDS’ ENERGY TO THE BEAT, THERES NO WAY THIS YOUNG TRIO WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO SEE BEYOND THE CITY STREETS OF MILWAUKEE, WI. EACH BEING PRODUCTS OF THE N.D.C. (NO DADDY CLUB), GROWING UP IN SINGLE PARENT HOMES, WITH NOTHING MUCH TO DO BESIDES RUN THE STREETS, MUSIC WAS AN ESCAPE FOR THEM ALL. SCRIPT, THE OLDEST MEMBER OF THE GROUP IS MORE LAID BACK, EAST COAST SWAGGER TYPE OF DUDE. HE IS A DIE HARD FAN OF ARTISTS SUCH AS JAY-Z AND NAS. LYRICS ARE A MUST IN HIS OPINION. SPEED, THE SECOND OLDEST MEMBER OF THE GROUP IS PART OF THE HIP-ROCK ERA. HIS INFLUENCES CONSIST OF ARTISTS SUCH AS LIL WAYNE, DRAKE, & T.I. RIDING THE BEAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT COMPARED TO HOW THIS DUDE JUMPS ON THE TRACK. TO COMPLETE THE GROUP WE HAVE THE YOUNGEST ARTIST OF THE THREE WHO GOES BY THE NAME MONEY MAC. MAC IS THE MOST EMOTIONAL & OUTSPOKEN OF THE GROUP. FORMER BATTLE RAP KING, IT WOULDN’T BE SMART TO DISS HIM ON WAX. INSPIRED BY ARTISTS SUCH AS THE LATE 2PAC SHAKUR, BIGGIE SMALLS AND THE KING OF THE SOUTH, T.I.P., MAC HAS WENT FROM BATTLE RAPPER TO A GREAT SONGWRITER. BEING CONTENT WITH STARDOM IN THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE IS FAR FROM WHAT THIS TRIO IS LOOKING TO ACCOMPLISH. CURRENTLY WORKING ON THEIR FIRST DEBUT ALBUM ENTITLED “NEW ERA”, “GENRE” PLANS ON CHANGING THE GAME WITH AN ALBUM FULL OF VERSATILITY, NO FEATURES! FROM SINGING HOOKS TO ROCK N ROLL JOINTS THEY DO IT ALL. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT, I COULD GO ON FOREVER BUT “GENRE” TOLD ME THEY’D RATHER LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING. WITH THAT BEING SAID, WELCOME TO A NEW ERA OF HIP-HOP. “SCRIPT“- JOSH BURKES “MONEY MAC“- DAVONTE UNDERWOOD “SPEED“- JOSHUA SPEED
