Bio

The brainchild between two dreamers stuck in a seemingly dead-end town, Holden was formed from the free-spirited Jeff Tompkins and the level-headed Danny Fallon in late 2009 as their final year of high school commenced.

Tompkins, the indie enthusiast, and Fallon, who enjoyed listening to the classic tracks his parents grew up listening to, sought out to create to create a unique and accessible sound, one which not only a casual listener could tap his or her foot to, but one that could put a smile on someone's face.

In an era where most music tends to focus on the negatives that bring people down, Holden seems to counter with a pop-rock sensibility hallowing on a summer sort-of vibe, which in fact, produces an instantaneous smile on the listener's face, an effect which is entirely perpetrated. As Tompkins says,

"It can be a lonely and tired world out there, and there's a lot of lonely and tired people in it. What the majority of people don't realize is that there may be despair and loneliness and bad things that happen to good people, but there's an entire good side of things we all neglect to look at."

In essence, that philosophy is directly reflected in the message inside of Holden's songs. With their first full length album, Monsters & Melodies, due out later this year, the summer of 2010 could not find a better soundtrack.

From the get-go of album, the lead single "Not Gonna" screams a sense of freedom and aliveness that is often connotated with the summer months, in a world where school is gone and the nights and children are young and in love.

Obviously, the two most nostalgic and summer-esque songs on the album, "Summer Forever" and "Sound in Stereo" reach for this so-found freedom, but also reflect on better times and the fact that everything that happens, happens for a reason.

Combining a chilling sense of nostalgic charm and catchy riffs, the rest of the album falls into plan, lighting a path for the listener into a world that doesn't seem too far from reality, but definitely becoming a brighter place than what they've come to know, which is in fact, the intended goal of the album.

"We want people to see the good in things, to see the beauty of life. It's not this horrible place, there's so much to be thankful for, to live for. This album takes you there," Fallon says.

With Monsters & Melodies due later this year(tentatively July-August) and a pressing amount of hype around the band, it can be sure that there is definitely a lot left to look forward to this up and coming band from Northwest Indiana. Keep the name "Holden" in the back of your mind as the years press forward.
