It's been a while since we've run a Track By Track feature, the last coming from Erland & The Carnival way back in January. Which is a shame, because we love them. However much you listen to a record you're never going to get the same insight as when an artist runs you through it themselves.
So, here's another. Hopefully one of many more. We Are Standard talk us through their new Andy Gill-produced album 'The Golden League', which comes out today (6th December). On the record they've collaborated with the likes of Cazals, David E Sugar and Arthur Baker, and, if you've got Spotify, you can listen to it here.
1. Don't Give Up (John Talabot Remix)
Madchester through the Mediterranean groove filter. Pitched up voices over a flowered slow tempo. We use it as a intro for our gigs now and it suits perfect.
2. Bye Bye Bye (In Flagranti Remix)
One of our favourite remixes. The original groove is slowed down and the vocals are also pitched down and sampled. Dark NYC house feeling.
3. Don't Let The Children Play Around (Anoraak Remix)
Electro French fiesta. Maintains the original melody and the harmony adding a new french electro beat giving a new power to the song.
4. The Last Time (Cazals Remix)
Nu disco electro beat with 80's coloured bass, synth and an amazing "beat it" guitar solo. The voice pitched up for a new brightness.
5. Other Lips Other Kisses (CFCF Remix)
Rhe remix starts with a slowed down tempo and a voice through a vocoder until it progresses to a break beat which leads to a Madchester piano riff, a dreamy synth and a psychedelic house beat.
6. The First Girl Who Got A Kiss (The Requesters Remix)
Electro house beats with a vocoder-through voices. It's a blast. Barcelona style house fiesta. A dancefloor hit.
7. The Present (David E Sugar Remix)
Electro-trance-techno-minimal remix. Smashes the original track for a late night club review.
8. The Last Time (Arthur Baker Remix)
From the Godfather of electro an amazing remix that will make move your ass. This is a hit and we love it. A real honour.
9. Easy (Night Vision Remix)
A crazy and excessive remix from a friend of ours in Bilbao, our hometown. He helped us with the programming for the album. Rock'n'rave!

8. We Are Standard – ‘Other Lips, Other Kisses' (CFCF remix)
They’ve recently released an album of remixes, called ‘The Golden League’, and we thought this one from Montreal-based DJ/producer CFCF was a good starter. Pick up the album for other remixes from John Talabot, David E. Sugar, Anoraak and more. - NME
CFCF has recorded an echo-filled version of We Are Standard's 'Other Lips, Other Kisses' for the Spanish electro collective's remix album 'The Golden League'. - NME

Bio
We are Standard began as a whirlwind with a demo recorded at the end of 2004, which earned them the Project Demo competition of the Benicassim Festival and started gaining interest from the whole of Spain, and from here they performed many concerts in other countries: France, Holland or Belgium amongst others.
Their first album, 3.000V-40.000W, was released by Mushroom Pillow in 2006, and obtained rave reviews and their live show was recognised as one of the best in the country, on stage they stand out above any other band in Spain and guarantee a party and a dance.
They also obtain the appreciation of the critics, earning the award of Radio Nacional de De España (equivalent of the BBC in Spain) by OJO CRITICO. The single On the Floor was included on the advertisement of tv of the Benicassim Festival in the UK and France and 3 videos were recorded for its promotion. The album was released in France and in July 2007 in The United States via Minty Fresh, now under the name We Are Standard and with features in Blender and Spin Magazine amongst others.
In 2007, the single The Mpossible Mixes comes out, where Lou Reeds Waiting for my man version stands out as dancefloor filler in their live shows.
Their following album is published in November, 2008. An album with a major artistic ambition produced by Andy Gill (Gang of Four) and which includes a remix of their single The Last Time by Arthur Baker (responsible for the sound of New Order). By then, they are on the front page of the prestigious Mondosonoro magazine and their first video of the single has everyone on the forums blazing, edited in vinyl and with another remix by Cazals.
By the end of that year they took part in the CMJ festival and return in 2009 to South By Southwest and to Canadian Music Week in Toronto. They are finalists in the award of Premios de la Música to best Alternative Rock. Their video The Last Time is the winner in the UFI (equivalent of AIM) and FIVA 2009 awards. Their second video The first girl who got a kiss comes runner up at the International Festival of videos Lemonpop and reaches the final stages of LunaKrea in Vitoria.
After a summer where they performed in nearly every festival (fantastic set at Benicassim, Contempopránea, South Pop, etc) they win the award for Best Spanish Band at the MTV European Music Awards. They also won the award Premio Evolución 09 for music.
