We Are The Preamble

 Chicago, Illinois, USA
BandRockSinger/Songwriter

We Are The Preamble's message-driven melodies are not for three-minutes-of-flavor bubblegum poppers, nor the new-sound-but-no- substance hipsters. These are introspective anthems for those discontented by the status quo: activists, believers & romantics. RIYL U2, Jeff Buckley, Switchfoot, Copeland

Biography

Poignant and poetic lines are the reason musician friends have affectionately nicknamed Harmony LaBeff, We Are The Preamble's frontman, the “lyrical assassin.” Influenced by logophiliacs like Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple, the lyricism of his debut EP Love Is Not an Accident is intelligent and imaginative but never inaccessible. Harmony’s gift of phrasing, timing, pacing and rhyming intrigues the avid liner-note-lyric-reader and the casual listener alike.

"Love Is Not an Accident" encourages people to listen to the sometimes-stifled inner-voice calling them towards their deepest desires to live purposefully and selflessly. The six songs on the EP are the soaring kind of rock songs that fans of U2, Switchfoot, The Fray and One Republic love to soak in and sing along.

After uprooting from Minneapolis to Chicago to marry his best friend & songwriting partner, Harmony began putting together what would become the band, We Are the Preamble. At the heart of the band's sound is a singer-songwriter's secret hope of hope restored. Harmony's silvery voice soars & dives over the sound of a smokey Rhodes, spacey guitars, bubbling synths & ornamented drumming.

Facts:
Legendary Rockabilly artist, Sleepy LaBeef, is Harmony’s grandfather. Harmony is named after his father who is also a singer-songwriter-guitarist; Sleepy started the musical-name tradition.

‘Silver Lining,’ written for a friend struggling with suicidal impulses, was featured in Rift Magazine’s “Rift Compilation, Vol. 1”. ‘Silver Lining’ has received numerous accolades from the music industry recognized website, GarageBand.com, including: Track of the Day in Pop Rock.

The members of We Are the Preamble are actively involved in humanitarian causes including The One Campaign, Invisible Children and World Vision. ‘Anthem for the Silent Planet’ was written for the voiceless children of the world. Harmony and Amaryah have both traveled to Monrovia, Liberia in Africa to be a part of social change through construction projects, community projects, training and musical performances.

Not So Much a Heartbreak

Written By: Harmony LaBeff

Way too much of you in way too short a time
Your opening had me hooked--the way you nearly rhymed
But you never were quite right like that cuz both of us were fiends
For the sugar and the cream, I guess I should have seen
When you poured us both some tea, we sat down on the floor
You were my therapy, but you left me wanting more
Now I'm crashing down, coming off your come-again caffeine

The effect you had on me--

It's not so much a heartbreak
As it is a headache
Stepping on the wrong crack
Looking for a take back
I knew I'd have to face this
I wish I could erase this
'Cuz it's my mistake

The way that things went down, just a bit too fast
Afraid of what we'd miss--the sweetness slipping past
The sun was burning down, and no sign of a breeze
But you were quick to please and you brought me to my knees
Coursing through my blood, dripping from my skin
Caught up in the flood of a fever setting in
Then like icecream in a rush, the middle of my mind (was) left to freeze

The effect you had on me--

It's not so much a heartbreak
As it is a headache
Stepping on the wrong crack
Looking for a take back
I knew I'd have to face this
I wish I could erase this
'Cuz it's my mistake
(It's not so much a heartbreak)

It's not so much the words we'd say it's the one's we didn't
It's not so much the games we'd play it's the way we hit it
Hide-and-seek slowly turned to show-and-tell
Kissing cheeks later led to lips as well
It isn't that I fell too hard it's the way I landed
When you let me go and left me empty, empty handed
But it's not so much the losing touch as losing focus
Broken like an unconvincing 'hocus pocus'
When I spoke with you this weekend you were so indifferent
I never knew an arm's length could feel quite so distant
It'd be better if I never had loved you at all
What's worse than love that's lost is one you won't recall
Drowning in a dream that will not let me wake up
Caught between your morning hair and evening makeup
But it's not so much the breaking as it is the bending
Of promises that you and I were both pretending--

It's not so much a heartbreak
As it is a headache
Stepping on the wrong crack
Looking for a take back
I knew I'd have to face this
I wish I could erase this
'Cuz it's my mistake

Silver Lining

Written By: Harmony LaBeff

Come on, get up, you're gonna make it through this hell
You don't belong here and you know it
You can't believe the things you've been saying to yourself
'Cuz I wont, not for a moment

Wake up! What are you waiting for the sun is shining?
Face love! You're gonna find it on a sun-kissed morning

It's not all your fault, it's just the way the world goes 'round
What's the use now in blaming?
'Cuz we all mess up, we're all face down on the ground
Everyone's searching for the same thing

Wake up! What are you waiting for the sun is shining?
Face love! You're gonna find it on a sun-kissed morning
Get up! Do you feel the dark has gone the day is dawning?
Look up! Down with the rainclouds, up with the silver lining!

The light of day is breaking, taking place of all the shadowy shapes
Monsters no one dares to name and the mistakes no one cares to claim
Ashamed of closet doors unclosed and faces buried in pillows
Expose yourself to the blinding light and watch these ghost-lit fears take flight, "Away!"

Wake up! What are you waiting for the sun is shining?
Face love! You're gonna find it on a sun-kissed morning
Get up! Do you feel the dark has gone the day is dawning?
Look up! Down with the rainclouds, up with the silver lining!

Goodnight, sweet dreams, I don't mind waiting 'til you sleep
I love to watch you when you're breathing
If we wake up, somebody prayed our souls to keep
If just for today there's a reason

Anthem for the Silent Planet

Written By: Harmony LaBeff

When I grow up you'll have no choice
But plug your ears or hear my voice
You may mock, "Young and naïve"
But I won't stop nor disbelieve

I'll clear my throat before I start
Then sing a note to break your heart

I don't care how long it takes
I hold this note into my grave
The sound will rise like a flag unfurled
To be the song heard around the world

When I am big I won't forget
The little voice the world neglects
One single word, one simple truth
Let "LOVE" ring out—our living proof

I'll clear my throat before I start
Then sing a note to break your heart

I don't care how long it takes
I hold this note into my grave
The sound will rise like a flag unfurled
To be the song heard around the world

When I am old and lose my range
And can't keep up with tempo's change
When notes decay, rhythms cease
I'll finally rest my heart in peace

With one last breath I'll fill my lungs
Then let the lyric fly ‘til it is learned in many tongues
One by one we’ll raise a choir, melody will spread a fire
It will burn in many memories and building endless harmonies
To the sound of children clapping hands, a rhythm calling all to dance
Crescendoing motif—these fortresses are falling under feet
Disarming hate and war; relentless waves cascading on the shore
In time we'll watch this planet shake, our anthem echoes into space of--

LOVE!
Love!
love!
love
