Young Ones

 Calgary, Alberta, CAN
BandRock

On the back of a short live demo recorded in April 2010, Calgary's Young Ones have taken their high energy sound to the stage with such acts as Tokyo Police Club, Ladyhawk and We Are Scientists, caught a spot at the Sled Island Festival and played parties for Streetwear giants Obey and Lifetime.

Biography

Armed with a short live demo, Calgary’s Young Ones have warmed up the stage with their brand of "Nocturnal Post Punk” (FFWD Weekly) for major acts such as Tokyo Police Club, Paper Lions, Diamond Rings, PS I Love You, Arkells and We Are Scientists. In addition to spots at the 2010+2011 Sled Island Festivals, Young Ones have also headlined parties thrown by streetwear icons Obey Clothing and Lifetime Collective.

The band has also been embraced by Calgary radio, with "Waves" receiving airplay on X92.9’s Xposure program and a spot on the 2010 CJSW Funding Drive opening night showcase.

In September 2011, the four piece self-released their debut EP on 10"+CD formats. Over its 6 tracks, Young Ones pound through 21 foot moving, post punk inspired minutes, leaving listeners equally inclined to snap along as they would be to fire up the beer sprinkler. From the driving beat of "Downtime" to the pop-like accessibility of "Waves," to the loungy feel of "Short Sighted," Young Ones deliver through a guitar oriented sound that combines a charming fuzz with an "all hands on deck" type ethos.

"Brett Sandford's confident baritone vocals compliment Joel Learoyd's trebly guitars to create a sonic signature that, like that beaming face in the crowd, you know you recognize but can't quite place from where.”
-SLED ISLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010

"Think the National or Interpol and gnarled Wolf Parade-like grooves."
-FFWD WEEKLY 12/03/09

"A sound that's as harmonic as it is punk rock."
-THE GAUNTLET 6/16/11
