Bio

WelcomeGraham and Calum met at a Jangle (cult status indie club, now deceased) after-party. Calum played in another band. They shared guitar stories. They met and and started jamming. It was quickly decided that even though Calum was the better guitarist, Grahams drumming was just not up to par. They needed a Bass player. Anina, aka Swiss Missy and known to have excellent taste in music, was drafted in. She had formerly been Grahams next-door neighbour and Sleazys drinking buddy. Welcome To Spook Club was born. The name points to the influence of Haruki Murakami on the lyrics and a surprising amount of people dont hear the spook bit properly. They contacted a few singers but they all seemed like control freaks. They got seriously spooked out by the world domination ones. Graham couldnt handle it, so surprised everyone by adding words to the music and starting to sing. Some of the songs are about fear, music, literature and crazed neighbours. Anina has famous shoes. Theyve played a few gigs and had to contend with drum kits making a run for freedom and the perils of tuning changes under pressure. Welcome to Welcome to Spook Club.
After 6 month of rehearsing and writing songs they recorded 3 of them and at the end of July 2007 they had their stage debut. Now they try to get out there and bring their music to the greater public... people have been very nice to them and in September they were chosen as one of 3 bands to be featured on radio XFM uploaded. DJ Martin Bates was saying that the more he listens to "Robert for King", the more this song is getting under his skin and compared them to the likes of Mogwai and the Delgados.
Welcome to Spook Club find it difficult to describe their sound but think the sound somewhere between Sonic Youth and Guided by Voices. Other people think they sound Scottish. Others Texan or New York. Many people mention Joy Division. One said Editors... and the list goes on.
