Bio

The Neosoul-influenced vocalist, born Wendy Kimani in 1986, developed her talent through singing along with musicians on radio and TV until her sisters discovered it. They listened to a lot of music especially because her siblings were all teenagers at the time and she was 5 or so. Growing up in Nairobi, The singer not paying attention to the singing talent, was very adventurous and tried a whole lot of niches like drawing, acting in plays in school and even modeling before she finally was pushed back to her main calling, music, by the best friend who pushed her into singing for her all her favorite jams during breaks.. But at age 17, Wendy joined French class and part of her assignments was to translate Celine Dion’s French songs. While doing this, she ended up loving her music and learnt most of the songs on the CD. She spent endless hours isolated in a classroom listening to the CD learning the different tricks that can be done with her type of
voice. At her end of year prize giving day at likii hill international
school, she decided for the first time to sing for an audience and she performed one of the Celine Dion’s songs she had learnt while in class. After finishing her KCSE exams she joined Alliance Francaise to improve her French and coincidentally there was a first time competition “Fete de la Musique” a singing in French competition of which she emerged as the winner and was awarded a trip to Paris, France, to study at alliance Francaise in Paris for three weeks. She then joined Africa Nazarene University to pursue a bachelor of computer science degree. She never forgot about her passion. In 2008, she auditioned for Tusker Project Fame and was one of the fifteen contestants that got to live in the TPF house and compete for the five million shillings and a recording contract by Galo records in South Africa. She was the First runner’s up at Tusker Project Fame 2 and got a recording contract from Pine Creek records recording with the likes of Tim Rimbui (Ennovator), Chris Adwar, Wawesh of Penya records and
Musyoka . “My role involves coming up with suggestions on how to combat rape as well as spread awareness on rape avoidance tips,” Wendy said, “ The campaign uses social online networks to get youth around the world coming up with suggestions on how to reduce rape incidents and combat rape. It’s also used as a means to educate individuals on what to do after rape in terms of medical tests that must be done, steps they should avoid like showering after a rape and legal action available to them. The online campaign is done through photography and video clips,
a media favorite with the young. Shes also worked with various Kenyan celebrities on doing a public notice to Kenya for the MDG’s in 2010.Her contract with Pine creek ended and now she’s unsigned working on her album that is at the last stages of mixing.
