Wendy Wood - Singer/Songwriter

Wendy Wood was born in Newcastle NSW, Australia, and discovered very early in life a love of Country Music. Moving to Tamworth and joining the Tamworth Songwriters Association in 1996, Wendy became Secretary in 1998.

Over the years she has received numerous awards, finalist nominations and places in various songwriting competitions, including the TSA National Country Songwriting Amateur Section Winner in 1997 with her song “Country Music Radio”, and her song “Till she called here last night” was the 1999 Charters Towers Song Competition winner.

Wendy’s first big break came with the inclusion of 2 of her songs “Don’t Tell Him” and I Built A Bridge (To Get Over You)” on the first TSA Country Song Search Winners Album and then again on the TSA Country Song Search Winners No 2 with her song “Till she called here last night”

Wendy was signed by publishing company Aussie Independent Music in 2001 and has had numerous songs recorded by other artists including Shaza Leigh, Evelyn Bury, Reg Poole ,Kay Jeffrey and Those Gals.

During the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2004, for the first time in TSA history, two of Wendy’s songs “Key to The Door” and “The Other Side of Life”, tied for first place to win the Capital News/TSA New songwriter of the Year award.

In early 2005 Wendy entered a song in the Nashville Songsearch and was thrilled to be informed that she had won the Directors Award for that compeitioin with her Christmas song “I Can’t Get Into Christmas this year!”

In June 2005, Wendy travelled to Queensland where she was a finalist in the TSA South East Queensland Song Writers Awards, where 3 of her songs were finalists. By the end of the night Wendy had won Contemporary Country Song of the Year for “Are You Happy Now” and Gospel Song of the Year “Why Not Me?”. She also was runner up in the Gospel section.

Over the last 7 years Wendy has been singing with popular harmony trio “Those Gals” from Tamworth.

Those Gals have been going from strength to strength and in January 2005 released their self titled debut album, which includes Wendy’s song “I am so over you”. They released their 2nd album “So Far So Good” in Oct 2006, which included three of Wendy’s Original songs. “Are You Happy Now?”, “My Heart’s Still Holding On”, and the critically acclaimed “A Bell Is Ringing Out In Beaconsfield”, which was nominated for Country Ballad of the Year at the 2008 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
