"Wentus Blues Band Deserves Greater Attention!"

On the heels of their excellent Family Album, the new Agriculture (Blue
Light 33136) shows again that the Wentus Blues Band deserves greater
attention. With a snappy version of Lonnie Brooks’ “Brand New Mojo Hand” the
lone cover amid 11 originals that span upbeat shuffles (“Moonshine”),
push-pull soul (“Take It Away”), slow-drags done Muddy Waters-style
(“Passenger Blues”), roots rock (“Love Bug”), uptown slow blues (“Here in
the Night”), and raging country-blues boogies (“Biscuit Roller”), these
Finns play an electrifying brand of blues not far from Omar & the Howlers.
Juho Kinaret’s vocals are appropriately wild, and the guitars of Niko Riippa
and Kim Wikman are crisp, clean, and penetrating.

Bio

While most people associate the blues with the steamy bayous of Louisiana and the cotton fields of Mississippi, lovers of the devil´s music may be surprised to hear that there is also a thriving scene in Scandinavia.
At the heart of this Nordic blues explosion are the WENTUS BLUES BAND, who hail from Kokkola in central Finland. And while the pinestudded wilderness of their homeland is about as far as you can get from the jukejoints of the Deep South, there´s no doubting their musical credentials. Established in 1986, the band have acquired a reputation as the hardest working in Scandinavia and play around 150 gigs a year.
The Wentus Blues Band has toured in 14 different countries, released 7 albums, done several TV-shows, headlined festivals and toured with many great bluesmen. Expect explosive blues and frantic rhythm and blues, played with laid back stylishness.

Wentus Blues Band has lined up some success all over Europé. In 2006, the band celebrated their 20 years anniversary with a concert that included special guests Louisiana Red, Eddie Kirkland, Lazy Lester, Kim Wilson, Omar Dykes, Barrence Whitfield, Mick Taylor (ex Rolling Stones ) and a lot of others..
The concert was filmed and the Musicdocumentary "Family Meeting" had its Cinematheatrerelease in Finland and Sweden in the fall of 2007. The Film was awardnominated for a JUSSI ( Finnish version of OSCAR ) for best documentary. The film gained great reviews and has been shown on the Nationaltelevisionstations in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

The band has backed up a lot of blueslegends and has gained reputation for their excellent work in the American Living Blues – Magazine.

The album ” Family Album” is a milestone in European Blues History: Nobody else ( except for Eric Clapton and John Mayall ) has put together an album with such blueslegends like Wentus has done..

Since 2002 Wentus Blues Band have toured regularly with ex. Rolling Stones- member Mick Taylor. Devoted Stonesfans claims that Mick has never before sounded as good as he does when he plays with Wentus.

Wentus Blues Band has played over 2000 gigs at festivals and clubs in England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux-countries, Italy, France,
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Faroe Islands.. The North-American debut was held in Canada, Toronto at the NXNE-festival in June 2008.
