"Werewolves ‘ES’ EP (BNS Sessions)"

"...there’s only 500 hand numbered copies of these babies around and given that ours is number 210 these may well be selling fast - if not then why not we ask because this could quite possibly be the coolest double seven inch on the planet right now. Werewolves from what we can gather hail from New York and beyond that there’s bugger all else we can tell you about them - hell even their record sleeve refuses to pass up the usual end credits section of email, web site, contact numbers and my space tags - all we have managed to glean is that copies - if you should so feel you need one - and lets not beat about the bush here you do - are available via that much respected sound emporium Piccadilly records - so if anyone can help in shining some light on these dudes then all info would be greatly appreciated. Anyhow self released as said previously limited to just 500 copies and featuring 4 cuts pressed up on two slabs of seven inch wax..." - Losing Today (UK)

"Werewolves Double 7" EP "ES" Out NOW on BNS Sessions"

"Werewolves are the latest NY hopefuls to hit the Norman stereo and utterly delight this old fool as they've got a bit of that old yank sound from 15 years ago, Opener 'Pill Box' comin' atcha like a mid-period Pavement college rock chug with these wonderful wonky off kilter guitars wobbling all over the place like they've got a mild dose of Polvo then these nonchalant, yearning vocals that make you wanna take the singer home & look after him. In fact they've got that same sense of lo-fi slacker grandeur over these 4 compulsive sides that makes fellow New Yorkers The Strokes & Walkmen so cherishable & vital. But equally there's touches that remind me of (very) early Hood & long forgotten Geordie chord manglers The Lavender Faction, obscure US bands like St. Johnny & early Built to Spill. The 'ES' EP has these subtle, unfussy songs that get under your skin, shambly, discordant & exciting like all those scratchy old obscure US imports you used to buy. So to cap, this is a great 4 tracker over 2 7"s. If we hadn't already been beaten to it by another shop i'd be fighting for this as SOTW!" - Norman Records (Leeds, UK)

"Werewolves 'ES' ep Single Of The Week!"

“A few weeks back a lovely chap called into our shop and left me a 7″ single, this happens a lot. When I got it home it turned out to be really good, this doesn’t happen a lot. Now I have managed to track down the first 2×7″ EP from Werewolves, containing four tracks of their primitive psychedelic indie vibes, it’s a bit garage, a tiny dab of Krautrock (Haunt), some darkness and a fair bit of shoegazery. This is the first release on their label too, straight outta NY and to your front door, via a Piccadilly Records exclusive…” - Piccadilly Records (Manchester, UK)

"Werewolves to release FIRE/WATER 7""

"...we’re thinking you need to get this into your life before you get any older, if ’ES’ was as stunning a debut as we’ve heard in many a moon then the follow up ’Fire’ / ’Water’ suggests to me that someone somewhere should round about now be taking serious notes about these dudes and getting them the exposure and acclaim they so richly deserve. We’ll give a brief mention to this at this point while we go and pester Cargo for a hard copy with which to give a much deserved (and no doubt) Single of the Missive thumbs up to in a future Singled Out. This lot frankly piss on everything daring to pass off their wares as psych / space pop and bliss groove, this baby when it finally gets released will be limited to just 400 coloured wax copies with plans afoot for an extended digital 12 inch promised to arrive before Christmas. ’Fire’ is the best thing we’ve heard here since fellow New Yorker Cheval Sombre dropped those three humungous hallucinogenic turntable tabs on us via Trensmat and Static Caravan, this Velveteen babe blends elements of the bliss driven narcotic pop of Spacemen 3 with the looping mind warping tranced out vibes of the Silver Apples and Suicide and crafts out of the combined psyche tapestry a wiring fuzz fuelled hypnotic toxic cosmic freak out. ’Water’ over on the flip - in our humbled opinion edging it in the best track voting - a serenely basked six minute slice of twinkling mind expanding transience delicately pepper corned with murmuring riff apparitions, controlled white noise collages and speckled with nimble noir like daydreaming overtures - a super chilled Sonic Boom meets Phillip Glass if you must have a comparison. Goes without saying all good record collections deserve it." - Losing Today (UK)

Bio

2008 was a busy year for psych/garage/pop-noir band, Werewolves. With legendary Cargo Records behind the UK distribution of Piccadilly Records-faved 'ES EP' 2x7" (BNS 001), Werewolves unloaded 500 hand-numbered copies to the masses. UK blogs and independent music zines took notice, opening their arms and welcoming Werewolves on their 2008 summer tour across the UK and Europe. The band (Singer and guitarist Brian Amsterdam, keyboardist Turner Halsey, guitarist Mike Maio, baritone guitarist Kimberly Arrigo, and drummer Ben Newman) went along with Vincent Cacchionne (of NY's Soft Black) to confuse and delight crowds wherever they traveled. Throughout the year the group spilled their blood at a long list of venues and non-venues; the performances chaotic, anarchic, blissed-out and raw. Readers of NYC's online Deli Magazine voted Werewolves band of the month in July, awarding them free recording time which resulted in the band's latest effort, the FIRE/WATER 7" (BNS 008/PWD 004).
