Jamal McDonald was born on February 21, 1992 in Laurel Mississippi. Better known by his stage name, DatBoy Yung Mal is rising to fame with the release of his upcoming solo mixtape “Understand Me” (2013). Yung Mal grew up with his father family and mother’s family in his life. He grew up in the city of Westwego, Louisiana.
Yung Mal is very passionate of his music. He began writing at an early age and did his first rap song at the age of 12. He later united with his cousin MR aka Mashon Richardson and together they formed the talented duo WestBank Boyz. After realizing the boys had a special gift, DJ Beezie aka BJM, at the time a local dj, agreed to manage them.
Their life was abrupt when the catastrophic Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, which prompts their families to leave New Orleans and begin a new life in Atlanta, Georgia, the music hub of the south. However, the WestBank Boyz overcame this adversity and would soon after perform at several Atlanta venues such as Apache, Havana, Wild Bills and Masquerades just to name a few.
Then the day came when MR aka Mashon Richardson felt he needed to focus on his education so he enrolled back in college. Young Mal was very supporting of his decision to further his education.
Yung Mal passion, hustle and grind were for his music so he immediately began working on his next move. Yung Mal along with BJM hit a few studios, looking for the right mix of beats and sounds that would be a good fit. Several weeks later the talented Yung Mal came up with his very first single "Straight To The Money" and there the magic started. Currently Yung Mal is gearing-up for his debut performances, and mixtape release that's set for the spring 2013. Be on the look-out for DatBoy Yung Mal’s mixtape "Understand Me" to beat the streets down this summer. All that is left for this humble, talented and patient artist is to tour in a city near you...
