"New Music: Western Affairs"

Washington DC’s Western Affairs are a three-piece founded by Alex Lee in 2009. Their spaced-out form of dream-pop is becoming rather addictive. Check this track and check their Bandcamp page for more info. - Bowlegs Music Review

"Western Affairs: 2000"

"2000 is the new EP from Washington DC dreampop band Western Affairs. The six tracks deliver some of the best music I have heard so far this year. Atmospheric, with lush vocals wrapped in beautiful harmonies, 2000 stands as a testament to the genre. Lush synths, reverby guitars and powerful drums, coupled with crisp production, set the mood for the tracks. This EP is a must have. Stream and by 2000 at the link below." - Floorshime Zipper Boots

"Exposure: Western Affairs"

"Smothered in reverb and lush harmonies - that's where I like to be on a bank holiday and luckily that's exactly what Western Affairs offer. Making the most of various organ sounds, the Washington trio have crafted a beautiful, ethereal experimental pop sound." - The 405

"Western Affairs – “1999""

"Western Affairs is a 3 person experimental pop group that is based in Washington, DC. “1999? is an electronic indie pop song with a little reggae influence from what I experienced. The reverbed vocals fit well with the gloomy emotions that the song portrays." - Visions in Music

"Western Affairs - Laura"

"Seems like a fitting band name for a group from Washington, DC. Lead man Alex Lee drives the hammond organ through this breakup ballad, calling Laura back for one more try. More than a few of you out there who will sing along to this lonely heartbreak." - YVYNYL

"Spotlight On: Western Affairs"

"Western Affairs is a relatively new band, but their mature sound puts them outside of the rookie status. Songs like “Control” and “1999? off of their soon-to-be released EP 2000 act almost as missing parts to the 2001: Space Odyssey movie soundtrack, with both tracks stylized similarly to set the intergalatic and almost foreign tone and pace." - DC Music Download

"Western Affairs – 2000 (EP)"

"The rigged soulful singing really stands out on the spacey electronic beats." - Visions in Music

"Western Affairs - The Sea Life -- Black Cat - May 29 2012"

"...The drums and synth combine to give this music a heft that separates them from dozens of lesser bands that may play nice dance beats...These guys come from the post Animal Collective school and approach a Caribou-like sound as far as I can tell. But the retro sounds were great and I even heard some Tuxedomoon...The vocal work is good and really carries a couple of great melodic songs to high levels." - DC Rock Live

"Royal Canoe at Velvet Lounge"

"Western Affairs are still a young band that are making their way onto local DC stages, showcasing their experimental dream-pop with tracks like Control and 1999." - Pick up Production

"Free mp3: Western Affairs – 1999"

"The trio releases this single in anticipation of their upcoming, debut release, and if the album teaser is any bit as good as the album, we are blushing with excitement. The experimental pop group melds a hypnotic, dreamy pop against layered, space-age romantics. Melodic synth, guitar and drums and the oh-so-dreamy vocals make “1999? a space-age, time-travelin’ love story. and this astronaut is into it." - Treble in Trouble

Western Affairs have embedded a lush and spacey feel underneath their single, ‘1999‘. Even though I have never had the desire to travel into outer space, Western Affairs have captivated me and have given me that starry eyed feeling. Listening to this song makes me think back to visiting various planetariums and watching lights bounce off the black walls during projections. That hollow yet never-ending hopefulness consumes you and Western Affairs have developed it so beautifully. - Dingus, music blog

"Electronic student band shoots for local success"

Many who listen to Western Affairs call it “dream pop” but the group describes their sound as “spacious and panoramic” electronica with pop elements, “strong vocal presence and lots of reverb.” - The Eagle

"New: Western Affairs - Control"

"This new track from Washington DC based trio Western Affairs is a tender, heartfelt number, parking itself subtly between the strained vocals of Youth Lagoon and the slick electronic fuzz of The Postal Service." - Crack in the Road Music Blog

Western Affairs is a three-piece dreampop group based in Washington DC. Originally founded by Alex Lee in 2009, the band has gone through an assortment of different members until finding a winning combination in 2011 consisting of additional membersDavis Connors, and Andrew Monborne. Their eclectic sound comes from an array of influences from new experimental pop DC bands to bizarre avant-garde sounds. While staying true to their style, live performances turn into ambient experimental sessions, incorporating noise, orchestral key modulations, and oscillating drums you would only expect to hear in the soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick’s 2000: A Space Odyssey.
