Bio
Westminster Park is named after a beautiful area in our hometown of London, Ontario Canada. A chance encounter at a local bar brought us together. On that first night we met, Steve said he wanted to make music and Colleen said she could be his back up singer. From there, a whirl wind romance, a self financed debut album( Westminster Park Self Titled 2003), and marriage all came to pass.
Our songs are intimate, catchy, fun, romantic, folky-chamber-pop-rock and roll, and above all else – honest.
Our first album was recorded over a two day period at the House of Miracles with the help of the brilliant Andy Magoffin. After the release of the album we played numerous venues in London, the album topped the charts at our local radio station and was nominated for a Jack Richardson Music Award.
Although it’s been a while, our song writing continued to grow and we have decided to release a second album. “Dear Honoured Listener” was recorded intermittently between July 2012-Oct 2013 in our basement studio and was released May 1st 2014 in limited edition Vinyl and CD formats. A collection of songs served best with wine, about everything from the struggle for middle-class careers and happiness (Big Questions/The Weatherman), passion and devotion to each other (Day After Day/Girl In The Navy Blue Cardigan), our love of music (Records In My Room/Dear Honoured Listener), the passing of friends and both our fathers (Chance To Say Goodbye) and finally our dog “Wilco” (I’m Sorry Now – written one morning on the bus when we were running late and didn’t have time to walk him before leaving for work). The album has been receiving positive reviews and was recently nominated for the 2014 Polaris Prize.
