West Wind and the Woodland Sisters

West Wind and the Woodland Sisters

BandWorldSinger/Songwriter

West Wind and the Woodland Sisters is a Canadian First Nations show in which both Contemporary music with Native themes AND Traditional First Nations music from all over North America are performed. The show is hilarious with a tinge of pathos for balance.

Biography

West Wind and the Woodlands Sisters is pimarily concert entertainment. We work across Canada and internationally at a variety of different venues: Expo 2005, Japan, Conferences in Sweden, Italy, United States and Germany. International interest in all things Canadian First Nations is what makes us popular.

We combine both traditional and contemporary ORIGINAL music that tell the stories of North America's Indigenous peoples; we use a combination of music and education to promote our cultures. Our main influence is our passion and pride as Native people who want our stories heard in a manner that pleases the Ancestors AND AUDIENCES! That's enough to set us apart, but also we're pretty, very talented and we write great music!

Lyrics

Into the Mystic

Written By: Shannon Thunderbird

When I want to follow you
Into the dreams of ages past
Close my eyes and think of you
Walking the walk of ancient times
My soul encased in crystal white

The hues and dyes of Mother Earth
embues my soul with love divine
and gives to me a perfect life

Heya ho hi-ya hey-a hey ho-a

Into the mystic the Goddess speaks
weaving threads of several dreams
A bridge between earth and sky
World of the spirits and real life

Power of the inner world
burning copper and blue
Power of the inner world
burning copper and blue

Spinning and spinning in circles
red and silver and gold and green
Spinning and spinning in circles
red and silver and gold and green

I cross the underwater bridge guarded by Gisbutwada
Ride on her back freeing my soul from the physical body

A woman of magic appears to me with mastery over fire
Dancin’ in a crystal cave
Singin’ of healing power

The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah
The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah

See the Red Road within the chaos
Healed by the gentle rains
Ancient memory rises up
Saving the world from pain

Energy of the female warrior
Flies on the wings of eagle
Arch of the sky beckons me
Creator calls me to heal

The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah
The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah
The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah
The Sacred Dance of the Ancestors
Ah Ah Ah

The Phoenix

Written By: Shannon Thunderbird/Sandy Horne

I put a message in a bottle and sent it to the sea
I sang a prayer upon the waves to its final destiny
Why can’t we sit together in a circle of the truth
Sharing our lives and our wisdom, and our worth

Phoenix rises Phoenix Rises to the arms of Great Mystery
Phoenix rises Phoenix Rises to the arms of Great Mystery - yeah

New Phoenix rises, she takes the pyre of her golden brother
To the sky the temple of the sun to sing to her new mother

The Mother is rising, the Mother is Rising in the arms of Great Mystery
Mother’s rising Mother’s Rising in the arms of Great Mystery - yeah

ooo ooo ooo
Phoenix sits in his nest and cries to the world to hear him, and
I am the symbol of eternity
I am the first to appear when your world is in flames from the gluttony of the end of times.

Phoenix rises, Phoenix rises to the arms of Great Mystery
Change is coming Change is coming in the arms of Great Mystery“My silver light is strong”, she cries, “my power flows ‘round the flaxen light”

“Follow me for I now lead us into the gilded night.”

Follow me for I now lead us to a future gold and bright

Circle of life is fractured, we stand on a lonely shore
but I believe, I believe there is time....before...before

Phoenix builds his funeral pyre and dies in a burst of flames
Re-emerging from ashes reborn to a world not the same - not the same - not the same
Yeah CHORD: OPEN
SHAN: The Mother is rising, the Mother is Rising flying free beyond the stars
The Mother is rising, Mother is rising we are safe within her arms
Change is coming, Mother is Coming
The Mother is rising, the Mother is Rising
She’s our next Eternity
Mother is Rising, Mother is Coming.....
___________________________
There is no temper in the air for the winds send healing change
The beauty of silver light, reflections of the Mother
The Earth will heal, the Earth will heal in the arms of Greaty Mystery
The Mother is coming, the Mother is coming to our next eternity

We Rocked Our World

Written By: Thunderbird and Horne

Ya got me when I’m not feelin’ well
You shoulda seen me at my best
For thousands of years standin’ tall and proud
Beautiful, strong and self-possessed

We rocked our world
We rocked our world

Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da

You took the sun and blinded the stars
They used to be close but now they’re far
The Old Ones said to save your lives
But you didn’t save ours - no
You didn’t save ours

You rocked our world
You rocked our world
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da

We came in a time before time began
walked our path looked after the land
It seemed that we could do no wrong
We belonged
We figured it out we belonged

We rocked our world
We rocked our world

Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
It seemed everything about us was wrong
You outlawed our lives and outlawed our songs
What had we done to lose our worth
We were livin’ in peace on Mother Earth
We were livin’ in peace on Mother Earth

You rocked our world
You rocked our world
Your rocked our world

Da da da da da da da)
Da da da da da da da)
Da da da da da da da)

We were told long ago you’d come
We were told to make you welcome
We gave you food, blankets and furs
You-gave-us-disease-our medicine couldn’t cure

You rocked our world
You rocked our world

And now we walk a dangerous path
not sure where we fit in
not sure how to laugh
But the drum is back and it beats strong
It won’t be long (now) it won’t be long (now) it won’t be long (now)

Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da

We Rock our world
We Rock our world
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
