The Shades

The upcoming EP release from Chicago trio The Shades drives across the country on a wind-swept, harmony-drenched road trip with friends, family, and an intoxicating summer breeze. The EP, Miles Made of Inches, is due out October 6. The band, comprised of NBC’s The Voice Season 11 semi-finalist Andrew DeMuro (Team Adam Levine), and brothers Phil and Mark Jacobson capitalize on moments of inspiration and melodic overhauls to create a diverse sound.

Miles Made of Inches was recorded in half a dozen living rooms across America. The accessibility of technology allowed them to take these moments and bounce them across state-line studios from Miami, to New York and Chicago; staying true to the title and shrinking every mile along the way. With influences spanning from pop and Americana, to Beatlemania and even hip hop, the band’s experiences find lyrical homes within the EP’s themes of love, loss, strength, perseverance, and the value of taking risks by seizing life’s fleeting moments.

“Only For A Moment” was inspired by the fleeting Chicago summer. The band, who often plays at local venues like the House of Blues, Schuba’s, and The Elbo Room, captured the changing seasons through sunset harmonies and upbeat melodies that stretch into tomorrow. The symbolism of weather and the changing seasons calls to action while reminding us that just as summer can come and go, so can important moments in our life. Whether it’s a first kiss, an important interview, or stopping to feel the morning’s first ray of light, it is important to capture every moment.
