"Review of Spatial Relations"

"Kristin Cotts debut album Spatial Relations is a GREAT folk album. The Chicago based singer/songwriter/guitarist has a voice that manages to be both reminiscent of some of the great folk chanteuses (Suzzy Roche comes to mind) and a style whose warmth and versatility reminds me of another great Chicagoland folkie, Steve Goodman (though I’d like to stress that Cotts is an original in her own right.) Aided by Steve Schuster on lead guitar, bass, and vocals; and Liza Villarreal on violin, viola, percussion, and vocals. Cotts leads us through a variety of moods and settings in these twelve intimate heartfelt songs. From the wistful 'Thing Called Beauty' to the funny 'Take a Little Break' Cotts’ style is subdued, smart and tasteful. Spatial Relations is a great addition to any music collection." Can you feel the pull?

Kristin Cotts is the front woman of What About Rosalind, a stunningly original alt/rock band with eloquent, incisive lyrics and lush, varied arrangements. Kristin has been performing in Chicago and beyond for the past eight years with the help of some of the best classical, rock, and jazz musicians Chicago has to offer. Also a composer of classical music, Kristin writes edgy alt-rock tunes, with folk and classical influences. She’s been influenced in equal parts by classical composers, sixties folkies and rockers, and eighties pop tunes but allows each song to serve its own purpose rather than forcing it into the auspices of genre.

Mixing wit with sadness and a straightforward delivery with an irony-laden roll of the eyes, the objectives of Kristin Cotts and What About Rosalind are to connect emotionally with the audience and entertain. Kristin's lyrics delve into the beauty, angst, mystery, and joy that comprise the natural world and the human condition. Kristin believes in the power of music to heal broken hearts and bridge the gaps among us.

In 2006, Kristin released her first album called Spatial Relations. The new album, Gravity the Moon, was completed in September of 2009. Can you feel the pull? WhaRos is ready for you.
