WHAT FOOLS Biography
From the get go listening to What Fools you get the sense these boys like to Mix *#it Up!
The first track, Yoga Pups off their debut EP, Fiends demonstrates the band loves to seemlessly mix infectious laid back grooves with smart, intricate hooks culminating into a raucous-sing-along-chorus that has the audience and listener alike chanting . Lyrics that keep you engaged and beg you to hit repeat just to confirm « yes! he did just sing that!» always tell a story of naive wisdom, youth and clever irony associated with the Fools' take on life, love and music.
Based in Toronto a D.I.Y. work ethic and self-promote-approach has allowed What Fools to easily graduate from performing at high schools, legions and make shift venues to taking the stage at the legendary El Mocambo and The Sound Academy. The film industry has also taken notice garnering a placement in the film Molly Maxwell (TIFF 2013) with their song, Short Lived Time.
Blister succinctly captures the Fools' hybrid sound - chaotic verses and bridge pushing frantically into a chorus that releases into the perfect melody « remeniscent of The Strokes » - a comparison the band regards as a compliment.
What Fools quickly attracted attention giving the band the opportunity to record Fiends with a Multi Juno Award winning, Socan Song Award winning production team that kept the mantra « what you hear is what they play », treatment-wise, so What Fools hits your ears and stays on your brain.
