What is The Internet?
Well, besides a global network of computer servers, The Internet is also a post-punk/shoegaze band from Santa Barbara, California. Taking up after bands like Television, Joy Division, and The Jesus and Mary Chain; the group’s sound is characterized by loud, jangly guitars, subdued harmony vocals, California-aesthetic, and an almost arrogant insistence on 4/4 rhythms.
Previously known as The Otter Pops!, Alex Brown (guitar) and Marvin Dominguez (guitar/vocals) changed the band’s name in May 2010 to avoid legal issues. The Internet’s debut EP released to iTunes and Amazon in May 2010. This, however, was merely a formality as the band made the album available for free via a fake-poll from its website; a move that has been heavily criticized as “career DOA” by nobody (yet).
