"Wheeling around with jam band Wheeler"

You may have seen the bus. In fact, it's hard to miss it. The St. Andrews based (now Halifax) band Wheeler was wheeling around the province in the most funky, fun travelling circus is local rockdom. The Wheeler bus proudly advertises the group. Its colorful paintjob helps spread the name way before the amps go up and the music begins.
Veteran St. Andrews singer-songwriter Jake Hubbard is the group's main voice. "We just completed a tour of New Brunswick right before christmas that took us to all points of the province" says Hubbard. "It was a very good eye-opener as to what it takes to become a touring band. Especially in Canadian winters!" The bus was a crazy investment for the band. We needed a vehicle that was big enough to carry all of the members of the band, which was six at the time, plus all the gear, and we have a great driver named Mel Gibson (no not the actor). We basically ripped out all of the seats and converted it into a rock n roll tour bus that sleeps seven comfortably. It holds all of our gear perfectly, and we had local artist Ara Soderman do the customized paint job, which in turn was our album cover.
Wheeler's first disc (self titled) is a 10 song set recorded at home in St. Andrews. It's a good example of the laid back fun the group offers on stage. Acoustics strum, the songs are simple and positive, the vibe somewhere between jam band and updated folkie. The friendliness and feel-good of Wheeler are attracting fans, and getting them a solid reputation as a live act. This past summer brought them plenty of highlights. They won the CBC/GALAXIE Rising Stars Showcase at the St. John Jazz and Blues Festival, were invited to play Paddlefest in St. Andrews, as well as two showcases at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton. The band has toured throughtout the maritimes and into Maine, U.S.A. - The Telegraph Journal (Bob Mersereau)
