Mississauga, ON – Mississauga artist WHILLA just released a new release on us titled “We Ball.” “We Ball” is an ethereal breathy electro-R&B jam with some hard-hitting trap-influenced production courtesy of DVN.
WHILLA explains that she fused the GTA and Chi-Town scenes together to create this particular song. She pays homage to the likes of Redway (R.I.P.) and Drake by putting her own twist on their most recognizable phrases. But she keeps things repping Chicago on the hook.
You’ll notice WHILLA borrows the line “F**k ’em/ We ball” from the film Snow On Tha Bluff. You’ll also notice that the cover art WHILLA used for this song is a screenshot from the movie.
The way this girl delivers it all though is so unsuspecting. She’s got that new wave R&B sound so when she says “F**k ’em/ We ball” you know she’s DEFINITELY not f**king around. SHE IS SULTRY AF. I also really appreciate the nod she gives to Redway on here. I know there was a lot of hype after his passing but that’s quieted down quite a bit. I salute WHILLA for continuing to preach his legacy like that. - HipHop Canada
If you’re unaware of The Known Unknown, it is an organization that is dedicated to breaking out the hidden gems of this city through Rap and R&B whether traditional or more experimental. I had the pleasure of judging this season’s panel and being part of the selection process. One of the unanimous decisions between the judges was Whilla, and because of this song, which struck me with that Sza vibe at first, it’s infectious and the hook stood out right off the bat. Be sure to check out her music and when she eventually hits stages across the city of Toronto. RUN! MUTHA! FUCK! AAAAA! - The Stixxlusive Blog
A newcomer to the scene, Mississauga’s WHILLA brings us the DVN produced We Ball. Fusing Toronto vocab with Chi-town, WHILLA lets us know that she’s determined to make something of herself and her dreams. Haters need not apply. Deep reverberated 808’s and in your face production from DVN add to the gravitas in WHILLA’s words.
After this and her recent Unapologetic, also produced by DVN, we’re looking forward to what 2016 brings for her. So hit that follow to watch her moves, and look out for another release. - Ohestee

WHILLA
was blessed with the opportunity to be added onto The Known Unknown (TKU) roster, which is a widely
recognized music platform in Toronto for
a select few of the best new emerging artist from The Greater Toronto Area. TKU
granted her an opening slot for Toronto vocalist, Jayd Ink at Tattoo in October
2015. She also performed for The Alley VI, curated by Omit Limitation and
York University’s Toronto’s Best Kept Secret Showcase during the 4th
quarter of 2015. Canadian Music Week also provided WHILLA with a complimentary pass
to attend the 3-day music summit where she will be in attendance this year. She
has been described as sounding like “Amy Winehouse over electric-type beats”. Her energetic performances are viewed as "one big party", so her sets will be an experience spectators will never forget. With an incomparable style filled with unique blends of heavy synths, mellow beats & heavenly distinct harmonies, she's destined to take over the world.
