WHISKEY MOJO

WHISKEY MOJO

BandRockBlues

WHISKEY MOJO is a dynamic 3 piece band from Australia with it's roots firmly planted in rock, blues & pop. Their music is story driven with memorable melodies.

Biography

Deep down in the south, amongst the swamp shacks of the mighty River Torrens delta, Rick Daniels, Phill Provis and David Wilcox united to cleverly blend their individual musical styles. The trio created a syrupy fusion of Aussie rock and rootsy tobacco blues in a barrel of contagious pop melodies – they call it, WHISKEY MOJO ®.

Rick leads the charge with his distinctive vocals, soulful guitar playing and award winning song-writing. Phill is the fine purveyor of luscious and velvety bottom end tone and he nurtures the groove through his classic Fender Jazz bass. David, having come via England, Scotland and Ireland, with an accent to match, has a drumming style that is both laid back and precise, setting up the big hits whilst creating space for his Whiskey Mojo brothers.

Since 2006, the band has been writing, performing, and recording their songs. They are regulars on the Adelaide circuit, playing at the ‘institutions’ of the original music scene, which also included the 2008 Adelaide Fringe. The boys were also lured to play shows in Sydney in 2007, 2008 & 2009, where they also added the finishing touches to their debut EP, ‘Sour Mash & Gravy’ - a five track taster of the bands musical offerings.

The EP has generated interest on radio in Australia, Madrid (Spain), California and o the WWW. Their track, ‘Come on baby’, was also selected for the ‘Blues Highway Volume 1’ compilation CD, presented by Hollywood based label, 272 Records.

Enjoy Whiskey Mojo straight up or on ice!

Driving Laps

Written By: Richard Daniels

They’re driving laps on the Avenue
We sit around, with nothing to do
Here is Phill and the other guys
A slab of beer in the nick of time

And there goes Dave, smoking up his wheels
We all laugh and give him cheers
And there is Jon in his flashy Ford
Gives it gas and the engine roars

Life is great, we don’t have a care
I love the smell of orange blossom in the air
Drinkin’ beer and spinning yarns
And now it’s time to jump in our cars

Driving laps in our cars
We’re driving laps in our cars
Driving laps around the town
Power up and sit ‘em back down

We head on over to Penny’s shop
Walking in, she’s got her bucket & mop
“Thought you boys weren’t coming in.
It’s not too late, I’ll crank the grill”

“I’d like some chips and a chiko roll
Make it two, you’ve got ‘em sold
The other guys order meals
They can’t go past Penny’s chicken deal

Life is great, we don’t have a care
We love the smell of Penny’s cooking in the air
Drinkin’ beer and spinning yarns
And now it’s time to jump in our cars

Driving laps in our cars
We’re driving laps in our cars
Driving laps around the town
Power up and sit ‘em back down

Driving laps in our cars
We’re driving laps in our cars
Driving laps around the town
Power up and sit ‘em back down

Life is great, we don’t have a care
I love the smell of eucalyptus in the air
Drinkin’ beer and spinning yarns
And now it’s time to jump in our cars

Driving laps in our cars
We’re driving laps in our cars
Driving laps around the town
Power up and sit ‘em back down

Driving laps in our cars
We’re driving laps in our cars
Driving laps around the town
Power up and sit ‘em back down

A Penny For Your Thoughts

Written By: R. Daniels

Who would have thought
You’d be hurting right now
Some kind of lesson
That you don’t need right now
There’s no need to cry
Just throw him from your mind

His selfish gains
By putting you right down
Pushed down in the rain
It’s in your tears you may drown
I’ll throw you a line
In me you may confide

What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts

You can count on me
Another friend for you now
And my shoulder is free
You can lean on it now
You may just find
You can throw him from your mind

I see the healing
It sparkles in your eyes
He won’t be dealing
Even if he tried
Your nightmare’s behind
You can throw him from your mind
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts

You finally showed him
Your will to survive
The freedom you chose
It gives you piece of mind

What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts

What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts
What will you do now?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts

Come On Baby

Written By: R. Daniels & C. Rogers

You say - god knows it hurt enough last time
I couldn't go through that again
You say - hit a fool with a brick enough times
And he'll learn from the pain
But I say - when you are born a moth
You'll always love the flame
Even while it burns your wings away

So come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Well sure it's hot
But come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Fly in with everything you've got

You say - why does a wave break the shoreline
Only to roll away?
And I say - I didn't make the rules
But you'll see that wave another day

So come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Come rolling on
Yeah come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Crash and thunder while you can yeah make some noise
Before your roll is gone

'Cos you can't change it
The push and pull
The ebb and flow
The round about and back again
You can't change it
The yes and the no
The stop and the go
The tide that rolls you back again

Come on baby

So come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Well sure it's hot
Yeah come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

So come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Come rolling on
Yeah come on, come on come on come on, come on baby
Make it count before your roll is gone

C'mon baby

HOME

Verse 1
Country girl in the city trying to make her way
She likes the new things but she’s torn a little every day
When there’s a big sky in your heart
How does it fit into a one-room flat?
When rolling hills are in your veins
Each little pulse is going to take you back - take you back

Chorus
She dreams she’s home - home again
To the gum trees and the river bend
Home - home again
To the dogs and the motorbikes - it’s mustering time again

Verse 2
It wasn’t made of gold - she left a bad, bad scene behind
And you can save yourself but still the memories come and find you
Phone calls with mama
Saying - when you going to leave him?
And she says girl one day you’ll know
Love makes you stick through thick and thin - thick and thin

Chorus
She dreams she’s home - home again
To the gum trees and the river bend
Home - home again
To the pub on the corner and the stumbling men

Bridge
Come home, ah come home, ah come home, come home

Chorus
Well she’s home - home again
To the gum trees and the river bend
Home - home again
To the birdsong and the cattle pens

Home - home again
To the gum trees and the river bend
Home - home again
To mama’s arms – and the stumbling man

HIGH

Written By: Richard Daniels & Catherine Rogers

HIGH

Verse 1
Kicking stones along the cliff
Down below the waves break on the shore
Oh they just keep coming in coming in coming in
Like life - can I take it anymore?
And everything’s grey

Chorus
But then the clouds roll away
I guess it’s always really been a sunny day
I watch the seagulls fly
My soul feels -

Verse 2
High - just for a minute then it’s back to earth
Is there really any point hoping?
Hope is the thing with feathers
Brushes you with anticipation
Then flits off somewhere better

Chorus
That’s what I stand on the cliff and say
Ah but it just keeps being a sunny day
I watch the seagulls swoop and fly
My soul feels -

Verse 3
High - come down you’re too high little girl
Don’t step out of line don’t try to change the world
Keep it in bounds, who wants to be astounded?
Isn’t that what they always say?

Chorus
But then the clouds roll away
Open your heart up it’s a sunny day
Watch the seagulls fly
Your soul feels -

[solo] High - (Dare a little, dare a little, dare a little)

Chorus
So let the clouds roll away
Somewhere on earth it’s always going to be a sunny day
Watch the seagulls swoop and fly
Your soul feels -

Outro
High - your soul feels high - your soul feels high - your soul feels high

Modern Life

Written By: Richard Daniels & Catherine Rogers

MODERN LIFE

Verse 1
Well you’re driving to work ‘cos there’s bills to pay
Feels like every jerk is getting in your way
And your boss is a freak and your colleagues are dumb
Somewhere there’s a cake but all you’re getting is crumbs

Because your mortgage is up and your shares are down
When the hell does it stop, this crazy merry-go-round?
And if your email alert sounds one more time
Your might give someone’s face a fist re-design

Bridge/Chorus
But just before they have to put you away
You can make your escape at the end of the day
Back to the woman who makes it all worth the strife
And she’ll laugh while you moan about your day and say “hey
Welcome to modern life”
Mmm - welcome to modern life

Verse 2
Well it’s Saturday you’re lying in bed
Your eight-year-old throws a pillow at your head
She’s saying get up dad it’s a beautiful day
And you throw it right back and growl there’s no way

Then your lady glides past on her killer legs
And starts making it fast with some bacon and eggs
And you know that you’re doomed when your four-year-old wakes
‘Cos if it’s bacon and eggs he wants dad’s pancakes

Bridge/Chorus
You stumble on out to the breakfast room
With the million toys and the loud cartoons
And wrap yourself around the angel you made your wife
And there’s quietness in the chaos as she whispers “honey
Welcome to modern life”
Mmm - welcome to modern life

[solo]

Bridge/Chorus [x2]
Well it’s a balancing act with so far to fall
But you know for sure that if you lost it all
They may as well cut your heart out with a great big knife
You’re committed you’re going the distance, family man - hey
Welcome to modern life
Oh - welcome to modern life

All Day, All Night

Written By: Richard Daniels

All DAY, ALL NIGHT

VERSE 1
When the show rolled in to town
I remember
She was standing in the rain
I remember
Hadn’t seen her for a while
I remember
I know the reason why
I remember

PRE CHORUS
There’s something I was to do
I made her feel like a fool
She walked right up and said

CHORUS
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
And you never called

VERSE 2
As she turned to walk away
I remembered
I saw tears well in her eyes
I remembered
So I grabbed her by the hand
I remembered
Tried to make her understand
I remembered

PRE CHORUS
There’s something I was to do
I made her feel like a fool
And this is what she said

CHORUS
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
And you never called

BRIDGE (Solo)

CHORUS
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
And you never called

All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
All day, all night
I was waiting for your call
And you never called

Why’d you never call
Why’d you never call
Why’d you never call
