"Review in Exclaim! magazine"

‘Whitey are a band that know how to play their instruments; the guitars often bring to mind ‘70’s era stadium rock, while the bass and drums hold down an almost dub/funk sound. Add that rockin’ horn section and you’ve got yourself a pretty good recipe for a solid band.’ - Exclaim!

"Live review from Ronatron.net"

‘Whitey will kick your ass. The six-piece from Chilliwack(!?) tore through their set with a wild ferocity that can only be seen to be believed. First off, their sound is much more mini-big-band than ska. Think Brian Setzer without so much noodling guitar.’ - Ronatron.net

"Live review from Abort Mag"

‘It became quite obvious as the night wound down, Whitey knows exactly what it takes to work a crowd into a frenzy and keep them there. If you are in the mood to drink and groove than it doesn't get much better than this!’
- Abort Mag

Bio

Recommended if you like Vampire Weekend, Ozomatli, Cat Empire and Mad Caddies, Whitey has been delivering the goods in BC since February of 2001 and charging dance floors and festivals across the country since 2005. With an EP, a full length and a documentary/live DVD in their library, stellar reviews in the bag from notoriously hard to please VICE and Exclaim! magazines, as well as a new full length on the way, this group from Chilliwack BC is well experienced and has the arsenal to prove it. Their style, incorporating everything from funk to Latin to blues, offers something for everyone in an extremely energetic live show.
Since their humble beginnings in February of 2001, while still in their freshman year of high school, Whitey has always harnessed the honesty and vigor of their beginnings. While the band has evolved stylistically, they have maintained their philosophical vitality; the freedom of expression and unifying principles of music.
At first glance, the diversity within Whiteys repertoire can seem unjustified. However, it is the most honest, revealing conveyance of song they can possibly offer. Their purpose as a band has been to channel whatever expression comes at the specific moment in time, while making sure songs are crafted methodically to make people come together, dance, and enjoy themselves with others.
Whitey draws the most diverse crowds possible and has since their inception. This is simply due to the fact that musically, Whitey reaches out to everyone, and conceptually, their shows are nothing but a hot, sweaty, intense celebration of dance, music, art, and life.
In eight years, Whitey has played in everything from bakeries, to haylofts, to middle school gyms, to nightclubs and festivals across the country. They have performed with such bands as Holly McNarland, The Tea Party, DOA, Big Wig, Closet Monster, Stabilo Boss, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Los Furios, The Brat Attack, WPP, The Accident, Cellar Door, Daggermouth, and A Textbook Tragedy, in addition to completing many successful tours spanning both coasts.
Upon the release of their forthcoming full-length album entitled West of Hope (produced by Craig Scott - musician for Diana Krall, K.D. Lang, Oliver Gannon, the Fred Stride Jazz Orchestra and Gypsalero - and Jesse Gander - Bison, The Buttless Chaps, The Pack AD), Whitey plans to continue touring extensively within and beyond Canadian borders, and establish themselves as a staple act in the North American festival circuit, an ideal setting for their craft.
