Bio
Whitney Lockerts love of music can be traced back to the age of five when he used to sit on a stool in his neighbors rehearsal studio while the band Wild Honey practiced. Those early days included Whitneys first attempt at fronting a band, when he brought his toy red guitar up to the front of the stage at a Wild Honey performance; the moment was captured in a photo that appeared in the Sonoma Index-Tribune, foreshadowing Whitneys later development.
Over the years, Whitney has played in several bands, playing blues, rock, reggae, funk, and any other style that tickles his fancy. He has been lead singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter for The Leisure Class, a Bay Area rock band. He has also performed recently with rising reggae star Luna Angel, and Nigerian singer Majek Fashek. Since 2005 Whitney has performed with these artists or solo in Thailand, Laos, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, U.K., Libya, Mexico, and Greece, as well as clubs and festivals in the U.S.
Whitneys original acoustic music is deeply influenced by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Cockburn, and U2, among many others, and their songs occasionally appear in his sets. A typical set might include a gently fingerpicked ballad, followed by a blues off the top of his head, then an almost punk-edged rocker. Through it all, deft guitar playing and heartfelt vocals keep the crowds attention glued to the stage.
