"Whitney Nichole Live Show Review @ Kindness & Lies Blog"

Whitney embodies the sound that she creates. Sweet, approachable, and genuine. Her lyrics and progressions are direct and accessible. She executes a wholesome sound - but certainly not timid. Whitney uses safety of structure to her advantage - her narrative vocal approach soars as often as it speaks, and its flawless tone sugars the songs. I repeatedly recalled (the incredible) Patty Griffin as she sang. That's as much an unflinching observation as it is a compliment.
The majority of her set, she was joined by her sister Shelby on backing vocals. LET ME TELL YOU PEOPLE - IF YOU HAVE A CLOSE RELATIVE THAT SINGS - HAVE THEM SING WITH YOU! There is nothing like genetics to facilitate incredible complimentary tones and harmony. Shelby backed with grace (staying frequently in a higher register) and a tasteful amount of support. - Ash Scheiding

"Whitney Nichole featured in the Record Searchlight Musician Spotlight"

Musician Spotlight: Yale graduate comes home to perform personal, down-home show:

Before Whitney Nichole moved away from the North State to attend Yale, you may have seen her in local performances with Kids Unlimited and Enterprise High School’s Victorian Dinner. After graduating from Yale, she watched most of her friends go to law school or medical school and even considered her own stint at studying law. But music was in her future so she decided to go for it entirely.

We’re glad you’re back to visit, but why did you leave the north state?

I graduated from Enterprise High School, but was accepted into Yale University, so I packed up and moved to Connecticut. After graduating in 2005, I moved to New York City where wrote music and played in a band, Whitney & the Tuesdays. Three years later, I moved to Southern California, where I performed solo.

I missed Northern California and wanted to be closer to my family, so I moved to San Francisco. After recording a few demos, and writing more than 100 songs, I decided it was time to branch out on my own as a singer/songwriter and record my own album.

Bio

At her core, Whitney Nichole is a humble, approachable, sweet young woman, whose music is truly an extension of her warm personality. Every live performance is genuine, heartfelt and intimate. "I try to tell stories with my music which invoke raw emotions that people of all different ages, backgrounds and situations can experience," she says. With distinguished piano parts, clever hooks, powerful chord progressions, moving lyrics, and belted vocals, it's clear that this female singer/songwriters melodic pop is heavily influenced by rock, country and soul.

Following the success of her 2010 EP Will It Grow, Whitney teamed up with producer Adam Rossi (Megan Slankard, Luce, Brad Wolfe) who brings her piano playing and singing to life on her debut full-length album 100 Strong, placing her among the likes of Sara Bareilles, Adele and Ingrid Michaelson. Releasing independently on March 8, 2011, 100 Strong offers a vessel to travel and explore this artist's story and spirit.

While in college studying law and policy at Yale (Class of 2005), Whitney was a member of two of the College's premiere a cappella groups, Whim 'n Rhythm and Mixed Company, releasing 3 albums between them. Following graduation, she soon quit her job, assembled a band, and hit the NYC scene. "I played every hole in the wall I could, including a strip club," says Whitney. After tackling NYC, Whitney moved back to California, explored the West Coast and landed in San Francisco. Since then she's won songwriting competitions in San Francisco as well as an honorable mention for her song "Hard Enough" in the West Coast Songwriters International Song Competition.

100 Strong captures Whitney's sincere, personal performances beautifully, adding an even more powerful feeling that remains natural and organic. Whitney's live performances often feature Shelby Grolig (harmonies), Abigail Picache (drums), Betsy Adams (guitar), Kevin White (bass), Adam Rossi (synth/vocals), and Rebecca Roudman (cello), all of whom contributed their talents to the album. 100 Strong also features Brady Fishler, Erik Schramm, Emanuela Nikiforova, and Eli Nelson.
