Bio
We play traditional bluegrass music the way we feel it was meant to be played – hard-driving and fast, with all acoustic instruments, performed using a single microphone. Our original songs may have a bit of a modern twist to the lyrics, but they always remain true to the heritage of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The band was born at the jam sessions at the Redlight Café, and our first ever gig was at the 2002 Atlanta Dogwood Festival. Since then we’ve performed nearly 200 times, and shared a stage with members of nationally-known acts such as The Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, and Blueground Undergrass. Three-part harmonies. Constant, playful exchanges between the instruments. And, most importantly, the knowledge that if we are having a good time, the audience will have good time. That’s what Whoa Nelly brings to each gig.
